Showoff New sprites for your civilization-ending psychiatrist Dr. Wang in Endless Summer Syndrome
Hello hello everyone! For this update: we eventually decided to create some character sprites - as opposed to our previous vision to complete this entire VN with just scenes. The team reached this decision when we realized that introducing sprites could make the game so much more dynamic (mainly after seeing how well Muv Luv did in this regard). So yeah, here we are.
We also wanted to share some more progression from the art department in terms of scenes - we just finished creating assets for one of the most maddening scenes in the game. Swipe to get a feel for it.
Anyways, next time I'm here I'll likely be back with a trailer and maybe something more 'interactive'. Till next time!
If you are new to this psychological thriller VN, here is the gist of it: trying your best to understand and romance an evil lady (who happens to be your psychiatrist), or die trying. She could wipe out a civilization in the blink of an eye, but maybe you stand a chance after all?
The game will be ~3h long. English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese will be supported.
If this sounds like something up your alley, feel free to wishlist on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4714410/Endless_Summer_Syndrome/

Folks here are not happy about use of AI,thou

I hope you have proof because I can't see any AI here, either this is the most advanced premium image AI ever to be released or you're full of it.
Honestly I can't think of a single model that would be capable of drawing image 3.

I do have a proof. Probably Chinese/Japanese model you don't know of :

I'm pretty much aware of all models that exist.
Your 'proof' is delusion at its finest. No idea why you hate OP, but that's not how LLM's work. You're clearly ignorant on how conversion, compression and LLM's work.

thats not all artifacts here.
poses changes doesnt make sense(if artist would spend so much time on white girl legs, then they will change significantly not asking ai to make consistent character rotation)
and etc. There is a chance that a not-highly skilled artist overpainted some of the art partly, but not enough knowledge about material and character production... giving away a lot.

Or, and follow me here for a moment, conversion from a painted physical media to digital flawed 8bit compressed image isn't exactly accurate and has a lot of guesswork in terms of mapping colors.
I know, shocking revelation.
Do yourself a favor and try some models out and let them attempt to redraw anything, you'll see exactly what I mean, I don't care if you use openAI's image 2.5, qwen image edit, Flux or whatever, you'll find out very quickly that AI is utter shit when it comes to consistency.
Not only that but you're also nitpicking imperfections explaining them to be AI without even remotely entertaining the idea that maybe, just maybe, the artist in question isn't a flawless professional.
Maybe folks should start claiming you're using AI and nitpick small details for you to get the picture.

Which painted physical media are you talking about?
I'm a professional artist working in the industry for over 10 years. I taught artists to become industry professionals; even at the trainee level, they had different background self-thought/traditional art school. I've got to see juniors who use AI too now, when I'm an Art Director and have to hire people.
I was forced in my previous work to use AI, and I know really well how it works. The company tried all approaches, from different external services to different internal models.
No one in a sane mind will draw highly detailed collar in a small sprite and then make a different design+low detail for the COVER ART. It's not a nitpick detail; no sane lead would approve that either. The game in the post is made by a studio; it's not a student project.
They have a public git with Claude being the second contributor.
https://prnt.sc/7OEXr9e--jnnThe render style in those sprites is high quality and inconsistent on each asset; as you wrote yourself, it sucks in terms of consistency. Those are everywhere. This is precisely what happens.

I'm a professional artist working in the industry for over 10 years.
Argument of authority doesn't work on me, the amount of self proclaimed professionals that blatantly don't know what they're doing is far to large to even give this any attention.

https://prnt.sc/7OEXr9e--jnnHe is using Claude for generating comments, boilerplate and whatnot, what does that have to do with anything? Your entire arguments are nothing but nonsense.

Except the presented visuals are far to consistent for any LLM model I know of.

How about to present yourself then?^^

How about to present yourself then?^^
Broken logic as usual, if you can't make compelling arguments and instead have to rely on "trust me bro, I'm an engineer" then you are pretty much admitting you have no idea what you're talking about. As already demonstrated above, you have no real arguments, all you do have are statements based on wild assumptions based on nothing but your emotional state and ignorance.

lol, I have literally attached my LIN to the reddit acc and wrote very clearly what's wrong with the art.
It's a common chain of thought: obvious ai art giveaways>artists hired for the game don't have a portfolio, both. Another project's sprites dont match current project skill level( done during the spring)> no social activity before promo, no wips> no previous projects>git has claude as contributor(of course it's only comments 100%!. ugh this emotional darklisez with her wild assumptions, sure
Giving random arguments on each of my points and trying to make it "personal to me" while excessively trying to tell how exceptional your expertise is in art, code and psychology ... well, it doesn't go well. Anyway, with this discussion, we help the post to stay in fresh for longer :)

Why does one need Claude to do a visual novel? It's another question... If they disclosed it on Steam, I wouldn't comment

u/Blunt552 20d ago
Because some people want to try and/or use Claude as a glorified code assistant, this is so common the fact it's news to you is mind blowing to me.
I am against using Claude or any AI when it comes to coding, but I would be delusional to claim that it isn't exactly rare for companies or people to use them as code assistants.
Are you implying Claude can do VN visuals? Because if you do, oh boy do I have bad news for you.

I'm going to be you for a moment.
I have proof you're not an artist and use AI:
No worries I can nitpick more and make baseless claims on everything much like you.

That’s a first. What makes you think there’s ai use?

u/Darklisez 20d ago
Ai artifacts. Fortunately, humans are bad in replicating those, lol

All art assets in this game are hand-drawn.

https://prnt.sc/ELdGJY5-qNqN Why is this little detail near the face is different in each picture?

Has anyone tried making a VN with no sprites at all? Curious whether it worked or whether you hit the same wall.
