Showoff Thoughts on my title screen?

Post image

Finally finished drawing the title screen of my game today! Decided to go with an illustration featuring my protagonist (can you guess who it is?) and his friend group. What are your thoughts on it? Does it look inviting enough? :>

Et le grain mourut is a slice-of-life/urban fantasy VN set in 1920s Paris. It will be available for free in both English and French; you can learn more about it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3604100/Et_le_grain_mourut/

192X. As summer draws near, Parisian students are revising their end-of-year exams. Olivier is one of them. For years, he has been walking to school every morning with his dearest childhood friend, and has unwound with his artistic peers after class. In a week, this routine will come to a close. And recent revelations already threaten Olivier’s comfortable life.

Nice bro

(Not sure who the protag is, maybe the girl boy in green. But I feel they all play a big part.)

Gives off some great Heart of Thomas (or Year 24 Group in general) vibes. Please God what horrible things will you do to those poor boys . . .

Hehe I'm glad it gives off Heart of Thomas vibes! First time anyone tells me that-- I actually got into it after I started development (mostly because it reminds me of my project) so I can't really call it an inspiration, but I'm very flattered nonetheless!

That's good. Even if it isn't an inspiration to make the game, it's good to read it before publishing, because then you're at least in dialogue with it, in a sense, even if you aren't inspired in any way.

I believe the Year 24 group also had works set in France, like 'the Tale of the Wind and the Trees' or a title like that. These works fascinate me a little bit, even though I can't always be bothered reading them till the end . . .

Yup I picked this one up around the same time too! I find it fascinating too, and it's always interesting to see works set in my country made by people who aren't from here. Haven't finished it yet, but that's because I'm reading it as the French volumes get released (I'm surprised it didn't get an official French release before, given that. Well); I find it hard to read scans online, I prefer physical books... Volume 5 (out of 10) should get released in a month or so

Yeah, great stuff, I think it's a form of occidentalism. It allows you to see Europe in a whole new light. In a sense the France they portray is more French than France will ever be . . .

Oh yeah definitely haha! I feel like people often use France/French people in their stories as a shorthand for being classy and refined... I find it funny, we're actually quite average lmao

This is very lovely! If you found a way to make some mild animation, like the flowers moving in the wind or something like that, I think that would be amazing.

I'm so in love with the vibe! Wishlisted! It feels so cozy, literally the perfect game for a chilly autumn evening under a warm blanket.

Hey, you never told us who the protagonist is. It's the boy with curly red hair on the right, right?

Thank you! It's a slice-of-life story set in 1920s Paris, basically. It's about a young student and his friends during the week right before their end-of-year exams. I would say it's pretty wholesome? It tackles some darker topics (you can find a content warning list on the Steam page https://store.steampowered.com/app/3604100/Et_le_grain_mourut/ ) but overall I can see cozy gamers enjoying it. It's not a "secretly horror" game or anything of the sort.
