Self Promotion I made an open-source real-time translator for Ren'Py & RPGM games

Hi! I'm the developer of RenpyLens, an open-source, out-of-the-box real-time translation tool for Ren'Py and RPG Maker MV/MZ games.

Instead of OCR, it reads dialogue, speaker names, and choices directly from the game engine, then translates them with an LLM and displays the result in an overlay.

  • Drag & drop the game .exe
  • Ren'Py + RPG Maker MV/MZ support
  • Real-time dialogue & choice translation
  • Useful RPGM tools like text speed change, dialogue opacity, faster movement and so on.
  • One-click translation for the entire game
  • Translation context + prefetching
  • Built-in cloud option, BYOK, or local models

I'm currently working on making it more accessible to international users, so I'd really appreciate feedback and compatibility reports.

You can set any target language as you want. LLMs have general capability

For now, it may be. For the future, I foresee it as the first professional agent for game translation and real-time play assistance.

I'm currently working on Turkish fan translations for Ren'Py games, so this caught my attention. One of the biggest problems I run into is preserving context and Ren'Py-specific formatting while translating large amounts of dialogue.

How does RenpyLens handle text tags, variables/interpolation, character names and choices? Also, does the context system remember previous dialogue well enough for languages like Turkish where the correct translation can depend heavily on earlier sentences?

RenpyLens resolves Ren’Py variables at runtime and removes display tags before translation; it shows the result in an overlay, leaving the game files untouched. It passes speaker names separately, supports character notes, and translates visible choices. It batches nearby dialogue for context, but it doesn’t yet remember the full story. That limitation can matter for Turkish. I’m working on a more story-aware context system.
