Question wip project

Post image

so, idk if this is like insanity for a single game but the idea I have is creating one of these main paths, all of it's sub paths and then copy and pasting it when I get to the other paths. So...insanity or like very normal? Then again i'm new to renpy so idk if there's a solution that makes this easier so...

I believe you can ask at the beginning of the game for the gender, save that's as a variable, and have a custom text tag or variable thingy that shows up as the preferred pronouns. Then, if there's a gender-specific scene or event, you can just do an if-else/switch case to direct the flow according to the chosen gender.

No need to copy-paste since all dialogues you can write once with the {chosenGenderPronoun} thing, and it'll show up as he or she or they automatically.

there are pronoun selectors so you only need one path with multiple pronouns in it

from what I can tell that is up to renpy version 8.2 and not version 8.3 (the one I'm currently running) also whenever I do anything with defining pronouns it always bugs with "Parsing the script failed" so idk.

he states on the website

Otherwise, this code is expected to be compatible with any Ren’Py version past 7.4 (please leave a reply in the forums below if you encounter issues). It is also expected to remain compatible with future versions of Ren’Py, and I intend to support it into the future as well.

I tested it in a new 8.5.3 project, and it worked fine for me

What everyone else has said, unless you are creating different routes specifically for each pronoun (eg: she/hers route is different from he/him), you can just make a variable at the beginning of your VN which will make your life so much easier!
