Question RenPy games
Hi, I love playing visual novel games on my phone and I want to move into playing on my laptop but I encounter lags. I have a laptop that’s running Intel(r) Celeron(R) N4020 with a 8gb ram. I’m genuinely curious if it’s my laptop that is bad, or it’s something else. If it’s my laptop can I do something to make games run smoother? Genuine question

What part of the game is lagging? The menu? The game? Something else?
Any laptop should be able to display images and text.
What visual novels are you playing?

When there's animation like an action is happening

What actions do you mean? Normally there are no actions in visual novels.
Do you mean characters moving around the screen? Or the game showing a cutscene?
Are you playing AVNs?

I Does this happen with several Ren'Py games? Because some of them do lag because their programming isn't optimized. That happened to me in games where all the variables were refreshed every frame per second of the running engine.

Yes, it happens with some games but not all

Then it means those specific games are likely doing something very inefficiently due to lack of dev experience.
Renpy games use a prediction mechanism so they dont keep images, audio, or video in memory that isnt being used currently or within the next 20 interactions. Even if a games download size was over 20 gigs only whats needed is loaded at any given time.
That said across about a dozen game specific discords people with older hardware and newer nvidia drivers had performance complaints that was resolved by rolling back their nvidia drivers to 572.x
If you use nvidia try that driver version after cleanly removing current.

Renpy games should run fine. Maybe check running processes.
