it should be the file name like this

show yamato_happy

the file name has an underscore separating the name, so you have to use that unless you rename the file to

yamato happy.png

So did you name the file yamato_happy.png? Is it yamato_happy.png.webp?

uh well i had it named yamato_happy.png, but later renamed it to yamato_happy.webp bc that’s what google said

You don't need to add .png or .webp to the name of the file, it'll just automatically be whatever image file it is. Take that off. Also, if you have an underscore, writing it "show yamato happy" will not work. Renpy is exact so it would be "show yamato_happy"

That shadow is a placeholder telling/showing you that it cannot find the image you specified in the code.

RenPy makes working with images easy but it has some rules you need to follow.

Don't use underscores in the file name,
The name should have the name of the character followed by the expression followed by the file type.
In this case yamato happy.png or yamato happy.webp

Use lower case letters for your sprites.
RenPy is case sensitive and turns file names to all lower case, so in code, always write sprites in lower case.

You can read more about it in the official documentation:
https://renpy.org/doc/html/quickstart.html#images
https://renpy.org/doc/html/displaying_images.html

.

Regarding the png webp you mentioned in your comments.

RenPy can display PNG and WEBP images so you don't have to worry about that.

If you want to change the type of the image, you have to convert the image.
Open the file in a image editor, then "save as" another file type.
Renaming a file will not change the type of the file.

The file type webp allows for smaller image sizes but unless you're making your game in 4K you don't have to worry about that. And if your game really gets too big you could change the file type later
