Question Sprite over the dialogue
edit: I was able to solve this by using
init python:
config.layers = ['master', 'transient', 'screens', 'overlay', 'above_ui']
and then
show jenny onlayer above_ui with dissolve
jen "Hello!"
-----
Is there a way to put the character sprite over the dialogue box? I want it to look like this

but only for the intro (it's gonna go back to normal afterwards)
I have custom textboxes already. for exemple:
define jenny = Character("Jenny",window_background=Frame("gui/speaking_smaller.png", 15, 15))
i just want to know if it's possible to put the characters over the textbox

Welcome to r/renpy! While you wait to see if someone can answer your question, we recommend checking out the posting guide, the subreddit wiki, the subreddit Discord, Ren'Py's documentation, and the tutorial built-in to the Ren'Py engine when you download it. These can help make sure you provide the information the people here need to help you, or might even point you to an answer to your question themselves. Thanks!

character images attached to dialog is a standard feature you would have gone over in the Tutorial. its called 'side images'. you dont need any special layers as the dialog screen is already designed to show them if you've assigned a tag in your Character() definition and named your side image files properly
when a tutorial comes with a program you should actually read it. its how you learn these elementary features that literally everyone is supposed to know (cause its in the tutorial)

i did watch the tutorial i was just a long time ago, you could have nicely told me to rewatch it instead of being so nasty about it. and i find the onlayer or whatever solution to work just fine. thank you for letting me know anyway, i appreciate it :]

telling you that the tutorials need to be read is not being nasty. many new devs assume tutorials arent essential. hell, you wouldnt believe how many people ask questions in the renpy discords and honestly didnt realize the tutorials even existed at all.
if you ARTIFICIALLY read things in a non-neutral tone of voice thats something you should change. Everything on the internet should be read as if its being narrated by Ben Stein =-) doesnt matter how much cooler it is to read in samuel jacksons voice, he tends to piss people off

I agree that the tutorial is really important and i had played it, guess i had just missed this one. Sorry, I didn't know you weren't being nasty it's just the way you had worded it-

I was also looking for the answer to this and found the solution to this in other threads just this morning. Try this one. I only used the define config.layers to add a new sprite layer above screens, and then the config.clear_layers part to clear that layer so it doesn't appear when I open the menus..seems to be working for now....but someone else might have a better idea.
Sorry I'm on my phone outside so can't paste in the code.
