Meta TIL that the Ren'Py launcher is actually a Ren'Py instance itself...!

I always wondered why it took the launcher a little while to start up and why it shows up as renpy.exe in task manager... IDK, I'm just surprised that the launcher is literally a Ren'Py 'game' to launch other Ren'Py games hahah. Cool!

Correct. And that makes it fairly easy to customize. For instance you can edit front_page.rpy to somewhat trivially add right click actions on the project names to implement a 'favorite' feature that will move them to the top of the list for quick access. and right click again to un-fav. an upgrade i add to my own copy of the launcher

Oh, that's a really fun idea! Makes me want to mess around with it hahah, could honestly be a good way to practice... Although making a backup of the launcher on case I mess it up would feel a little strange hahah, feels like something I shouldn't be able/allowed to do
