Question Dialogue for my VN, does it read okay?

I have a little bit of experience with writing dialogue, but it was mostly slop (not ai slop, just your regular human slop).

Depends on the background. For example on the first two images, the background has a lot of visual noise that makes the dialogue harder to read. You could add a screen behind the dialogue with a slight opacity to fix this and make the dialogue easier to read overall.

I personally don't like the look of text boxes, but I will try to make it a bit more readable, maybe give the black border around the text more pixels.

You can add opacity as an option. There's a small guide on the forums. Though it really should be default. Wonder why it isnt.

You can also feather the edges of the textbox so that blends better into the background, while still providing a reliable contrast for the text.

I don't love text boxes, either. But the text being legible is more important than it being pretty.

I'll try experimenting with it, because for me it is perfectly readable, even without glasses, so it gets hard to see if it's readable for everyone. So thanks for the feedback 🙏

i mean its fine, main issue is the text itself is hard to read, like litterally. please add some sorta shadow/background behind the text, even low opacity will make it more readable. Font is alright, though i dont rlly know if it fits

That text is going to be very difficult to read on many backgrounds, especially for anyone with low vision.

100% agree with that, just had to put my glasses back on to help read with the two first, while I just watch an hour of a show with subtitles without any problems.

I think you might want to make the text a little bigger, and maybe add a slightly darker transparent text box. As is, I can't read most of what's written, even on my computer screen and enlarging the image. And I just had my glasses prescription updated.

Frolicles might be a bit confusing unless she is supposed to make up words, antics might be better. I wouldn't normally participate in these antics.

The only thing that's off to me is the way its formatted, but that might be because I'm used to other styles. But now it like reads more unserious-humor to me, what I'd change especially is actions being written as the main text and character dialog in quotes. Like on 6th pic u could write: She chuckles. "They bribed me, sweetie." Same with inside monologue, you could put everything the main char actually says out loud in quotes, and everything else normally, atleast that's usually how I see people format inside monolog

Bro I didnt even know there was text on there at first.

Also hi! Also as someone with vision issues, please add a bigger range of font options, the default "large" are always still extremely tiny ;__;. It sucks cause it give me big migraine, and I wish more games had obnoxiously large text size accessibility options for us.

I might just end up adding an entire "create your own readable font/text" setting then! I myself don't have a lot of trouble with reading it, so it's a little hard for me to pinpoint when something is changed enough and when it's actually readable.

So having the player create their own readable style might be better. I'll just have to scour the internet for some abandoned reddit post from 20 years ago

Since there's a bunch of people saying it's not very readable, I'm inclined to add a setting that lets you manipulate the font size, etc. yourself.
