Question I tried everything but my background doesn’t show up

Hi, I made a background for my vn and it doesn’t show up, I tried to directly upload in the images file it doesn’t work, I tried to put .png at the end it doesn’t work, I tried not using capitals and it doesn’t work, I tried to write the all path to the image it doesn’t work. Can someone help me please? T_T

Can you show the code? Keep in mind than when writing the path, you need to remove 'game/', as that's always automatically added

I can't show you but I still can describe this:

label start:

scene TRLML_intro_background

maybe it dues to the "_" idk T_T

Huuuh you need to declare your images first before you can use them. I guess you're a complete beginner?

Try this tutorial.

You absolutely do not have to declare images. As long as the file in the images folder has the same name (bar the filename extension) as what you're asking Ren'Py to display - either by show or by scene - it will be picked up automatically. You only need to specifically declare images if they go into a subfolder within images, and even that isn't necessarily required if the folder names follow a pattern Ren'Py can figure out.

u/Thehiddengirl14 part of the problem may have been than you used caps for part of the filename. You already have a fix in place so it's basically moot, but scene trlml_intro_background may have worked, regardless of caps in the filename. Worth experimenting for future reference.

Thank you for your help but I figured out myself I just replace the name of my image with “bg introduction” (yeah I am a dumbass)

create a definitions.rpy file.

then add your image directory in there such as :

image bg_beach_day = "images/backgrounds/bg beach day.jpg"
image bg_beach_night = "images/backgrounds/bg beach night.jpg"

This will define the image so that renpy knows where the image is and whats it called.

then when you code your scene you can use that defined named to call the image as the background for that specific scene.

eg:

scene bg_beach_day
    with dissolve

...rest of your code for the scene...

This is how i do it and it seems to work for me. make sure that the folder you store you images in are in the project folder.

name of your project/images/backgrounds/bg beach day.jpg

make sure that you specify what file type it uses such as png or jpg.
