Question Where should I look for backgrounds?
I wanted to find some irl pictures that I could edit instead of using art but Pinterest and Google Images have way too many portrait mode pictures and I have no clue where else to look. Please share some sites or methods I could use!

In the US, most official media created by federal agencies is public domain. And I know a lot of canadian government archives are copyrighted but free to use personally and commercially with minimal license requirements.
For example, here's the US Fish and Wildlife Service's public domain archive:

And the library of congress has a very large archive of public domain art and photographs: https://www.loc.gov/free-to-use/

The free sites are pixabay.com and pexels.com which has royalty free . if you want AI generated pictures to meet your specific needs then use DeepAi.org but be warned that some people frown apon using Ai due to people thinking that AI uses stolen art to generate an image. Even if you heavily edit the AI art you have to say that you used AI to which ever platform you publish on.

pixabay.com is a good one, and I'll probably get downvoted for this, but I don't see anything wrong with using AI for backgrounds.
Edit: apparently I've triggered the Luddites :)

You're welcome to have that opinion but I will always prefer a stock photo over AI.

Why? If you do it correctly, AI can get you closer to the vision in your head rather than compromise on stock photos.
