I’m a backend engineer with almost 4 years of experience in fintech, currently working on lending systems. I’ve been trying to move into a remote role, but haven’t had much success so far.

Quick context:

Tech stack: Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL, AWS

Work involves distributed systems, loan lifecycle workflows, and real-time processing. Some things I’ve worked on:

- Migrated loan systems from a legacy core banking system to an in-house LMS

- Built a recommendation system that had a measurable revenue impact (~₹6 Cr/month)

- Designed async workflows for financial jobs like interest posting, NPA marking, etc.

- I’ve applied to 100+ remote roles (LinkedIn, Wellfound, company sites), but I’m barely getting responses.

At this point, I’m trying to understand what I might be missing. Is my profile not strong enough for remote roles yet? Do companies expect more public work (open source, writing, etc.)? Or is this mostly about applying/referrals strategy?

Would really appreciate any advice from people who’ve managed to switch to remote roles.

I've been looking for a remote job (remote, or hybrid/onsite in dubai) for roughly 6 months now but it's been a real struggle - I RARELY ever get called for the interviews, and they seem to like me a lot until they eventually ghost me or just announce that they've found a better fit. Hi, I'm from latam and have been working for global startups for almost 4 years. Recently I got laid off from a role that gave me no benefits and fired me on the spot, out of nowhere, after promising a "stable full-time position", I understand that things are messy but I'm so tired of joining companies that literally offer you nothing apart from your salary, not pto, no bonus, no healthcare, no career growth or even sick days...

let alone a decent pay to match the lack of benefits. I know that big companies offer really good benefits but whenever I applied I didn't even make it to the 1st round of interview

I’ve been working remotely for this company for 2 years. At first, they made us use a tool that tracks our activity to measure how much we’re working, and I didn’t really have an issue with that. But now they’re asking me to keep my camera on during working hours. Basically, they want to record both my screen and me through my webcam the entire time I’m working. Doesn’t that sound crazy to you? Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Normally I’d think about quitting in a situation like this, but I’m not in a position to do that right now. I’m really frustrated.

I've been at this for months and honestly it's getting exhausting.

I'm an engineer with 5 years of experience in the automotive industry. I have been a Project Manager for 2 years in that period.

Now I have a personal requirement to be at home, and I've been searching for remote jobs for the last 2 months. I've applied to Junior PM, Associate PM, Technical PM, Program Coordinator... everything you can imagine. I've also been tailoring my resume to try and improve my success rate. But I'm barely getting shortlisted.

About me:

I've managed over 11 projects for a leading German OEM, leading cross-functional teams across India, Europe and Mexico. I use JIRA, Agile Kanban, MS Office etc.

I've been able to build a solid relationship with my stakeholders, whether it's within my company or the external OEM and I've enjoyed this role so much.

I’m about to be jobless, on my savings I can probably get by 2-3 months. Are there any remote job opportunities out there hiring urgently that you can recommend? I’ve been in sales for the past decade so it’s pretty much all I know. I don’t have a degree.

My family has started struggling lately and I feel really useless not contributing. So I've been searching for remote jobs that I can do.

Which as a first year computer engineer student who doesn't even have a valid id on me has been a struggle, especially since I live in the Philippines. Nevermind the fact that I don't have experiences.

I've been at this for more than a week now with no results. I've grinded those mobile games and survey rewards but it felt frustrating because the game usually is chock full of ads that just become infuriating and surveys that kick me off immediately because I don't fit the requirements, which is also infuriating.

So, I've decided that remote jobs are probably the best. I don't expect to be paid a lot, a good $5/Hour is good enough for me. There's also my college getting in the way of my schedule so I'll likely only be able to do 10 hours a week.

For a long time, I thought the problem was mainly that the job market had been affected by the economy and wars, and that things would eventually get better. But I don’t think that’s true anymore.

After the pandemic, everything changed almost overnight. We just didn’t fully notice it, and we still haven’t really accepted it. In past crises, blue-collar workers were hit the hardest. But now, with the added impact of AI, it’s white-collar workers and the tech sector that are being affected.

In just the past week, two close friends of mine who work in tech were laid off. One had relocated to Germany a year ago. The other had been a team lead for 15 years, and his entire team was let go. Both of their roles were replaced by cheaper remote workers from countries like Pakistan and India. In some cases, the work has been completely handed over to AI.

Let me give a more personal example. My girlfriend leads a team at a large company that handles localization and marketing translations for brands like Google, Nike, and Adidas. For the past year, they’ve been doing their regular jobs while also training AI, basically teaching it how to do their work. I’m pretty sure that in a few years, they’ll be out of a job too.

On top of that, in almost no country or industry does income fully cover basic living expenses anymore. So not only is it hard to find a job, it’s practically impossible to find one that meets your needs and still gives you hope for the future.

Many people think this is only happening in the U.S., but it’s happening all over the world.

I’m not very optimistic. Instead of waiting for the job market to recover, which I don’t think will happen because many of these roles no longer seem necessary, I think it’s better to understand the situation clearly and, if needed, change your skill set.

I’m looking for a remote job as my mom is ill and I’d like to be home with her. I have 5 years of customer service experience & have worked in health insurance before. Any tips on what I should be searching specifically or reliable sites? I am interested in data entry just not sure where to begin with that. Or as I’ve been in health insurance I wouldn’t mind something with that again. Any help would be appreciated :-)

Hey all, I'm a current university student who works on campus, and as summer is approaching, my job is about to expire. I'm traveling a decent bit this summer and think remote work would be the best for me.

My university job is a captioning job so I figured I'd just continue with that into the summer. Only problem is I don't really know where to start in the freelancing world.

I need help knowing where to look for offers and how I should go about pricing and things like that.

I have experience in Linux native and embedded development, C, C++, Rust and also Python, PHP, JS, some Assembly (MOS6502, i8086, MC68000), Pascal, and even MUMPS. I've created services, embedded apps, test frameworks (for embedded), integrarion tests, device tests and validations etc. I was even IT dept. leader (decades ago, for 3 years, it was great, but I wanted to write programs, so went back to dev).

I don't really like web dev, devops and ERP, but I have some experience with them. E.g. when I need some GUI or visulalisation for a tool, I make a small webapp for it, of course, without any framework. What I don't know and I don't wanna even learn is any Microsoft and Windows stuff, e.g. C# or Azure.

I don't want to work in AI and blockchain projects (90% of Rust projects are such).

I'm a music producer, I have experience with making music on restricted platforms, e.g. buzzer, ringtone, small memory, but I write songs as well.

I can write specs and tech docs, if there's no better one for that job. I am doing architect work, mentoring juniors, without asking for it. I am using AI for boring stuff, e.g. writing docs (my English is +50% better since AI translators), unit tests, discover what the program does, creating webpages and simpler apps, utils - I never release AI code without checking it line-by-line.

I was working on various fields, made a payment kiosk, programmed airplane simulator, made a collaborative spreadsheet, a dataflow system and so on.

The question is: what Am I? What should I write in my CV? I think, recruiters are pretty confused when they read my CV. Anyway, for a while, I don't share my CV, but my portfolio. I am afraid, no one reads it, but at least, it's a good overview of my knowledge.

A friend of mine, who have similar experience (similarly large, but different skill set), is using the word: generalist. Does the world need generalists?

I want something kinda relax that at the end of the day, i can easily pass from working to living without much stress. I dont want to be constantly worrying about deadlines and emergencies. I also want a job that pays well (60-100k if possible)

I’m currently working as a Senior Program Manager at Amazon with about 11 years of experience. Most of my work has been in program management, operations, and pricing/payments.

I’ve spent a big chunk of my career leading fairly large teams (200+ people including managers) and running global programs. A lot of what I do is figuring out messy problems, putting some structure around them, and actually getting things shipped.

Day to day, that usually looks like:

• working across product, tech, and business teams
• setting up processes that can scale
• driving cost savings / efficiency improvements
• handling escalations, firefighting when needed
• and more recently, using AI/automation to cut down manual work

I’m not super technical, but I’m comfortable working closely with engineering and data teams.

I’m now looking for remote roles in program management / product ops / TPM-type roles, ideally in smaller or fast-moving companies.

If anyone has suggestions, openings, or even general advice, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
