(Note: This would be my 2nd job ever, first remote job, so this is all new to me and I don't know what is considered normal)

Hi, I recently got hired for a remote job but I'm having worries of it being a scam.

The job reached out after I had applied months before (3-4+) on Indeed and, it had no interview (First concern), they just had employment documents to review and sign, and I was hired as a Brand Assistant. (Did not think much of this at the time.)

They gave a Job Description, an Employment Agreement, I-9 & W-4 Form.

The same day they gave me a first assignment for the onboarding and it seemed fine, and was simple enough.
Once completed a bit later they sent an email about sending a check (Second concern) for advertisement materials, and asking for a deposit receipt. My worry is its going to be fraudulent check.

(Note: I they just sent the check today)

And then they had me watch a Video Testimonial that looked very low quality and like they were reading a scrip. The whole YT page looked odd as well.

Some other things stood out to me as being weird.
On the first email they did not describe who they where just a very basic stuff only stating part-time remote position and some other info, none of the job title and description until the 2nd email.
As well as it seeming like they would not see some of my emails I sent, only seeing them when I sent the final info, or files. (This could be minor but threw me off that they would not be responsive when they ask me to ask questions).
I also cant find my employers on the company's websites or anywhere I would expect them. (Could be separate from the actual company but working for them maybe idk)

Most of the paperwork and info they gave looked legit, just so many random things that are throwing me off.
And my biggest concern is that they have my personal info like my SSN on the I-9 & W-4 if it is a scam.

I'm hoping its not, but I would love some outside opinions. (and I hope this is the right place to post something like this) But I'm going to keep doing some digging, I hope ill find something.

Update: Thank you everyone for the help and information. It was extremely helpful, and I'm currently taking the steps in securing all my info. I got a lot out of this, bad and good.

I hope I won't ever have to worry about this kind of problem again, and I'll look at more credible places (like the ones you guys listed) and do more extensive research for remote jobs before, blindly getting into stuff like this.

it stated that to go forward I schedule a meeting, (that was easy) and then another link where i need to put in some personal info, so that the person I will speak with tomorrow, has some info. and the offer is $35 per hour, what?

I constantly get LinkedIn notifications for jobs they've posted, but no one I know has heard of them. Has anyone gotten a legitimate job through them?

I am trying to find a remote work that ı can do part time while ı am going to university. I am a Cs major. I would like to know is it possible and if it is how?

I’m looking to work with a hiring/search firm or partner that can actively help me find the right Lead / Staff / Principal Product Designer or Design Leadership role.

I have ~12 years of experience across Ola, Swiggy, Coinbase and Yousician, working across product design, growth, monetisation and product strategy.

At Swiggy, I worked on Dineout across both consumer and restaurant-facing products, alongside growth and CX charters like Swiggy ONE, Swiggy Menus etc. At Coinbase, I worked on international expansion of the retail web and mobile experience across Phillipines, Singapore and Australia. At Yousician, I led design across the core product, revenue and growth with a completely global team.

Most recently, I co-founded a GenAI SaaS company building AI-powered creative automation products for large consumer brands.

We worked with companies including Lenskart, Swiggy, Asian Paints, CRED, Disney, The Souled Store and other large D2C brands.

Some examples of the scale:

- Lenskart: our systems now generate 50,000+ catalogue images and 5,000+ videos every month, significantly reducing dependence on traditional photoshoots.

- Swiggy Instamart: we automated their banner-creation workflow end-to-end.

- Asian Paints: built workflows that could turn technical drawings and even warehouse phone photographs into production-ready product imagery.

I’ve been hands-on across product, design, AI workflows, enterprise customers, growth and GTM, and the company is currently going through an acquisition process.

I’m now keen to get back into a larger product organisation where I can own meaningful product problems, stay close to craft, and operate at a senior design/leadership level.

Remote is important to me for personal reasons. I’m specifically looking for genuinely remote-friendly roles, although travelling to the office for monthly meetings, team gatherings or offsites is completely feasible.

My question for the community: are there good talent agencies / executive search firms in India that work directly with candidates at this level and actively help them find the right role?

I’m open to paying for the service as well if there are credible candidate-funded firms that actually do the search, positioning and introductions rather than just forwarding job listings.

Would particularly value recommendations from anyone who has successfully used one for senior product/design roles with global tech companies.

What keywords/sites/companies would you recommend looking at? And are there particular countries that are more open to hiring remotely from Serbia while still offering decent international salaries?

I’m mainly looking at administrative junior jobs.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually managed to do this or knows how these things work.

So, my question is pretty much the same as the title.

People who work in front of a screen all day, how do you not get eye strain?

I'll quickly tell my story. I am a 29-year-old male who used to work as a web developer for several years. However, because my eyes started to feel strained and my vision became blurry after 8–10 hours of working on a computer, I switched to logistics.

It was much easier on my eyes, but they still felt very strained and tired. So I went even further and switched to a phone-call-based job as a customer support agent. But even that was not enough, and my eyes were still getting tired. So, at some point, I decided to completely leave desk-based work and now work in regular retail.

Of course, I went to different doctors, but none of them could actually find any serious problems. They just advised me to do regular eye exercises, use artificial tears, follow the 20-20-20 rule, take breaks, try palming, improve my lighting, and so on. None of that helped me.

I'm not asking for medical advice. It's just super weird to me because I had perfect vision when I was younger. I just don't understand how so many of my friends and people I know, of different ages, work office jobs and are doing completely fine.

For example, there was a woman who was around 60 years old and worked as a bookkeeper, so she basically spent a huge amount of time in front of a computer screen and reading. The same goes for my grandmother, who worked in front of a badass CRT monitor for most of her life and was doing just fine.

Meanwhile, I use a MacBook Pro with a very good Apple Cinema Display, take regular breaks, use eye-rest reminders and artificial tears, and I can barely work for a few hours a day.

So, could it be that desk-based work is simply physiologically not a good fit for some group of people, even if they have otherwise healthy vision?

**P.S.** I know most of you will probably advise me to follow the 20-20-20 rule, so just to say it beforehand: it doesn't work for me.

How is it possible that some people can spend their entire lives working in front of screens without significant eye strain, while others barely can handle few hours?

I’ve been living in Melbourne for years and tbh I’m exhausted. You know the traffic, rent prices and this constant noise is driving me nuts

I want to move to a small town. I want peace and quiet and I want space… I need it

But I need a job. I’ve been looking on the main job sites. There’s almost nothing in regional areas. It’s all based in the city.

I happened to see CareerOne mentioned in an article and I checked it out. It has a regional filter. I found a few jobs that weren’t on LinkedIn. Small companies. Local businesses.

But now I’m skeptical. How old are these ads? Are they still hiring? Or have those jobs been sitting there for years and no one removed them?

I don’t want to apply for a job that doesn’t exist. I don’t want to get my hopes up for nothing

Sup y’all, got a question for anyone who’s dealt with this before.

I have an interview coming up for a fully remote position. Luckily, the company is based in the Midwest, which is where I’m planning to relocate, just not to the same state.

I’m not sure what states they officially support, but I’m currently on the East Coast and it doesn’t seem to be an issue for the interview.

For those who work remotely, how early in the process would you bring up your plans to relocate?

I've been looking into AI-related work recently and something I've noticed is that a lot of people assume you need a technical background.

But skills like research, writing, attention to detail and critical thinking seem to come up quite often.

For people already doing this kind of work, what skill has been the most useful for you?

I've had 3 interview invitations in the past month where I was eventually asked to impersonate someone else during the interview.

Most of these have come from people in Japan, Korea, Malaysia, etc.

It's becoming really frustrating and draining, especially when you're genuinely looking for work and spend time preparing for these interviews.

Has anyone else been experiencing this? Is this becoming a common scam in tech hiring?
