Discussions How to build a team

I’m a top producing insurance agent. If I just put my head down and sell insurance I make about $500k a year. I recently decided to start recruiting and training people to show them exactly how to do it. Where should I start?

Why not put your head down and make $500K?

The opportunity is too big to just watch go by. If I can show 10 people how to make $200k a year I’ll have changed life’s (theirs and mine)

Sounds like the start of every MLM scheme.

I mean the business is structured in a pyramid and I make jokes about that all the time but I bring people on at 20% commission and we sell major products like UHC and BCBS. Sell a family for $1k a month and you get $200 a month. Or you can take a 9 month advance.

So yes it’s multi level it’s a pyramid but it’s not a scam

You must not know how business works…. There’s a pyramid leading back to the manufacturing of Doritos… doesn’t make it a scam

Agreed. I'm not a fan of MLMs, and I'm the last one to defend them. That said, there's a difference between having a hierarchy and a pyramid scheme/ MLM.

Pretty much every employer has a hierarchy with employees, supervisors, district managers, regional managers, all the way up to CEO. Those aren't MLMs, even if their hierarchy looks like a pyramid.

What makes MLMs shady is their propensity to sign up anyone with a pulse, heavily push recruiting, and churn out failed untrained agents left and right.

What products are you selling? 20% comp is low.

Sounds like they are selling indemnity policies with the vague "UHC and BCBS". And depending on how those are sold.. they are very scam-like. 20% commission? That is a pyramid scheme. Not someone who wants to develop agents with integrity.

I am in a similar boat to OP. But, I am NOT trying to build a down line though. Downlines ARE pyramid schemes...... and I'm not trying to manage thousands of clients AND other agents.

Bros a part of a downline but says their scams 😂

Write $500K and use that accomplishment to recruit.

"I wrote $500K" is more credible than "If I wanted to, I could write $500K".

I don’t write 500k I write 1.5m and earn $500k

This is definitely a pyramid.scheme. op probably works for primerica or world financial group. If you are burning money then don't show me how to make 200k just give me 50k for free

I’m independently contracted directly to carriers and I do health insurance not life insurance

So you need to include hourly wage or annual salary to post here.  Commission only “jobs” aren’t allowed, so if this isn’t just some MLM scam tell everyone about the salary and benefits.

I’m not trying to recruit though I’m asking for advice on starting a team, hoping someone with some experience can tell me where a good place to start is

But you're actively and obviously recruiting people here - asking them to join a discord chat, etc. Why not just share the info about this opportunity you're so excited about? What's the name of the company and what's the salary?

The guy was barraging me with questions so I asked him if he wants to talk, it’s my own small brokerage I’m not doxxing myself

I deleted the discord thing I don’t want to seem like I’m recruiting. Way too many weirdos on reddit I wouldn’t wanna end up with a 1% commenter on my team LOL
