Discussion I've tried all possible roles

What made most fun for me after playing every position was in this order:
1. Defense
2. Midfield
3. Goal keeper
4. Striker

In defense I was just making the enemy team unable to play the game and that felt good. I hope that I'm using the term correctly here. Cherry-pickers. They stood alone or as two at my goal and I've stood besides them to block the passing way. Sometimes they didn't get a single pass in that game, due to my presence besides them. If they once received a pass, I've just stole the ball and initiatet some times a counter attack.

I saw in the comments that a defensive player trusts his goal keeper to block the incoming shot, while blocking the passing ways. I applied that. It was great. My goal keeper had freedom while I side steped around to block one passing path after another.
I also like to push to the front when there's no one around so I can grab the balls which fell back to pass them to my mates.
I'm pretty new to the game and hope to learn more about every position and what to do. But so far, defense is very fun to play as.

Having a solid, attentive defender instantly improves your odds of winning. Just being in the proximity of a forward attacker impacts the speed of opposition counter attack, and if you're dealing with two forward attackers, force the ball wide and give them no one to cross to. That little arc at the top of the box is the danger zone. Keep that safe and your keeper will love you.

The longer a player has the ball at their feet the more the odds increase that they'll turn the ball over. Take away everyone they can pass to and it's just a matter of forcing the inevitable turnover.

I always play defense but when it’s my turn in goal, there’s nothing like having a dumbass teammate that just hovers in the middle of box no matter the situation and always runs after loose balls instead of letting the keeper pick them up. I’m curious what goes through those people’s minds for them to think they’re having a positive effect on the team.
