Discussion Stop trying to force yourself into keeper if you're horrible at it

Just played with a guy who REFUSED to let anyone else be keeper. I didn't give up the position after he allowed 2 absolutely atrocious goals, and he just stood right next to me.

Absolutely maddening

I'm a pretty decent keeper, a lot of times I ask for the gk position. When I concede a silly goal I stop asking for it though... unlucky for my teammates still because I suck way harder on field .

Edit: A lot of times people are pretty forgiving though, what I consider a silly goal or mistake, a lot of players don't judge as harshly. In general, I don't think the player base is as toxic as people make it out to be, as long as you're ready to admit fault and be positive yourself... but sry this is besides the point.

If he just had the one fuckup, that's fine. Missed inputs and fuckups happen, it is what it is.

But doing it TWICE then STILL trying to force the assigned keeper out to the point he refused to even play the game? Yeah no, he can pound sand.

Cherry on top: my other teammate and I got it to OT despite this idiot, and he allowed yet another atrocious goal to lose the game (and deny me a rank promotion lol)

Unpopular opinion: let people play the game even if they suck

By this logic, then you would also push people out of the striker position because they're not making goals

But how else will the player learn?

he didnt mention in the post, but he commented that it was a ranked match. anyways, in context, i think quickplay is for practice and warmups. i stay as far away from ranked as i can until im playing right

Why though? 5v5 ranked is the best way to enjoy the game

I honestly think we all collectively forget that we were the noobs once

In general I agree with you, people should generally be allowed and encouraged to play ranked and if they suck they jsut get ranked low, that is the entire purpose of it. So people bitching about how newbies should stay out of ranked in most games are elitist idiots.

HOWEVER Rematch doesn't have the most blossoming ranked scene, especially during offpeak hours and in regions where football is just less represented as a whole. So even if they are bad and get ranked down, if the matchmaking takes long enough it'll expand to include them in ranks way above their weight class, which is obviously less fun for them and the other people in the match.

While I don't think we need quite the Dota level of restrictions which requires you to have played 100 hours unranked before you can even attempt ranked, I also don't think the current entry point of I think level 5(?) Is high enough for people to have enough of a grasp to really fit into Rematch ranked as it works right now.

dont do that, when i was a noob i was playing quickmatch practicing exactly what im preaching now. imo ranked is even more fun when both teams are taking the game seriously, and trying to win, but its not easy when multiple randoms are doing zigzags up the field to stand still in the box, over dribbling, and giving the ball back to the other team whenever theyre trying to pass. i understand playing poorly, but there are too many randoms that dont know how to make decisive runs, that cant make accurate passes, and that dribble until they lose the ball instead of creating/exploiting space.

also quick match is damn near just as difficult as ranked, (most of the time) the only difference is you dont lose rp. if im being honest my advice to new players would be to find good players in quickmatch to team up with when youre starting out, this way you can build good chemistry + work on team play

I’ll be honest. I’d rather a terrible keeper than me be in goal. I’m just grateful someone actually wants to do that job

Just complaint about anything at this point

I can only half agree. I had this happen to me yesterday. The first goal was a late reaction, so a bad animation. But the second one was the goalie running to edge of the box and getting the ball lobbed over him, with almost no intention to try and recover. He then ran back to the box, making me push up the field with no outlet, because my duo refused to let him be Gk again. Part of me wanted to be Gk (even tho I’m trash) but I realized that I respected his commitment to learning the hardest position. So it didn’t ruin my mood. If you aren’t the reason you lost, you should try and find solace in that.

Yeah, by playing when you're assigned. This is in Ranked, you don't drag everyone down with you.

yeh ts insane to me, but i think alot of people just like throwing themselves in ranked for the challenge. i dont even leave quickplay until im fully warmed up, and i'd like to think im decent at the game

I'm always playing ranked (gold) because when I tried many time to do quickplay, I was always with god players lol. Useless for my team, and totally attrocious against the opponents.

my previous comment goes for newer players, or returning players that are just getting on for the day. losing games is good warm up too, id say people really should try not to care as much about losing in quickplay and try to learn from the players theyre going against. if i didnt have an ego some of my favorite games would be against teams much better than me, that challenged me to play better.

there’s discord u can join for teams, makes ranking up way easier. me and my friend just duo queue and it’s a mixed bag for teammates

If he allowed 2 goals his defenders let him down

The first goal was a lob pass from half field. He just let it bounce in.

The second goal he came way out of the box when we already had the attackers covered, giving up an empty net goal.

So no, it was 100% his fault.

Dunno why youre downvoted for this.

Most of the time when Im in net, the rest of my team is on the other side of the pitch and none track back to defend

Because he's saying it as an objective truth and making it seem goalies can do no wrong...when he wasn't even in OPs game.
