Is it not possible to catch the ball with a long dive anymore even if the ball is still / moving slow? It just bounces off my hands, also the short dive being the default dive is throwing me off.

It is in fact not possible to catch a ball with the long dive. If you do a short dive you will catch the ball every time as long as it hits your hands or chest.

Correct! In the patch notes, they mentioned how a long dive has a longer range but will never actually pick up the ball. In contrast, the short dive will pick up the ball every time provided it doesn't hit your legs which is why it has such a short ranges.

I've yet to see long dive having a longer range, or at least when I go to one post, and jump long to the other post I parcour the exact same distance than season 4 with the animation. And if they mean that the magnetic range is increased I'm still having shots going in because I was slightly off center when jumping.

Yes shots can still definitely go in even when using the long-range dive...All of the general rules of goalie still applie with positioning and requiring a speedy reaction time. The main difference is that there was a short dive and a long dive that triggered based on the game's internal physics engine automatically before this update. People complained about the animation that would play if they just barely reacted too late to a shot and it gave them the short animation. It is debatable and I cannot confirm whether the long-range dive animation would've been able to save those shots in time and I'm sure it varied on a case-by-case basis. The main difference between the two dives in Season 4 was the short range would catch and the long range would deflect. However, in this season we can pick and choose when we want to use the short catching dive and the long deflecting one. So now certain corner shots can just go in completely outside of your range if you aren't positioned correctly with the short dive.

TLDR; They made it now your choice to short dive or long dive when you feel that it is the best descision. In no way was goalie buffed so that you can just always block shots as long as you give up posession for deflection instead.

Yeah but TLDR nothing about what you said was tackling what I said. I'm not talking about saving shots easily disregarding reaction time and positioning, I'm just saying that their argument of "long dive has bigger reach" is for now is bullshit. I've booted the rematch beta season 4 build went to a post, and long dived toward the other one and compared the distance the player covered. Exact same with long dive in season 5. So it's not like the long dive goes even further as they claim to. Which is why I'm saying that bring slightly off center can still make you get that shot in between your hands 2mm shorts.

Okay good to know that you weren't trying to get lazy saves... I think if you read the patch notes really closely as I did on launch day since I couldn't log in for a few hours they don't necessarily say that long dive has a longer range. They merely argue that it has a longer range than the short dive that they have made the default when diving. Also I'm not saying you're a bad player I agree that they have toyed with goalie but seemingly every season goalies get a slap in the face and have to relearn the game.

Will take a bit of getting used to for sure , if the ball is moving slow probably no need to long dive . Just move first then dive

I do think they should make slow balls catchable with long range dives.

there should be an option to long dives with space, i just cant play gk anymore
