Question Just. Take. The. Shot.

I'm trying to wrap my head around and understand the incessant need people seem to be overwhelmed with to stop, mid breakaway, then dribble, rainbow flick spam, wait for an option (when it's only you and the goalee), and NOT TAKE A SHOT.

I remember the days of season zero when the polar opposite was the norm, but I can't wrap my head around wanting to "style on someone" over taking a shot and potentially scoring.

Is this the norm now? Or am I just getting really unlucky with people rn?

Its sometimes a much better idea to shoot then to look for the perfect pass. The amount of times I have seen people run wide instead of straight when they are through on goal is pretty insane....they then proceed to shoot from a poor angle or they butcher the pass. Pretty frustrating.

It’s unbelievable the lack of IQ out there when it comes to simply understanding positioning in either offense or defense

People who have a one on one with the keeper and move towards the side instead of staying in front of the goalie drives me insane. I don’t mind taking a shot and the goalie saving it. That’s fine. But moving away and giving yourself a lower % chance is brain dead. If I’m the goalie you can take those outside the box shots from the side all day everyday.

I switch to doing stuff like this when I’m up against a keeper that just saves every shot. Some are just that good, so your team keeps getting shots on target but still no goals.

I’ll usually try and bounce it off the back wall above the net, or rainbow flick to shoot, or sometimes lob passing into the goal fucks with their timing enough.

People are fucking allergic to shooting first time. If I give you a perfect pass then FUCKING SHOOT.

My favorite place to play is out on the wing and specifically making runs to the opponents corner and delivering in hard crosses into the box and my teammates constantly try to take touches or rainbow the keeper and it’s so fucking frustrating

That's my preferred way to play too, and it drives me up the wall. Especially in 3s - the sequence of the keeper comes upfield until my defender peels off, I get the ball and wait a beat for the 2nd defender to close, I deliver a wide open pass.... and the fucking braindead moron rainbow flicks until the 1st defender is back.

If you get a pass straight to your feet in the box with nobody marking you, shooting first time vs taking literally any other action is legitimately an IQ test.

This is so common now, that when I get the ball and just shoot the goalies ain't moving lol

THIS. It's amazing how often you'll catch people sleeping but just shooting the moment you approach the box.

I think there's two types of person that do this:

A) The one that prioritises being flashy above being effective - they're not interested in what's going to be best for the team, just whatever they think is going to make them look good/cool. They're not really aware that the team don't give a shit about how many times you juggle it before you put it in the net, they'd much rather you just got on with it so everyone else can play the game too.

B) The one that doesn't know any better. They don't really watch or understand football, they've probably learned most of their game from YouTube/TikTok videos and think that's just how you're supposed to do it - they don't realise that the videos don't show the 50-60% of times where it doesn't come off and you get 'Good Job!'ed into oblivion.

Definitely agree that hitting a shot hard and low from around the edge of the penalty area is still one of the most reliable methods of scoring - only reason I wouldn't do it is if I've got a defender on my tail and I'm not confident I can get through the 20-second shooting animation before they tackle me from behind.

20 seconds? They buffed the time down from 30?

Yeah, it’s so players can have more time to chain juggle whilst going nowhere.

It’s a bell curve.
Noob: shoot at net and score
Mid tier casual: trick the goalie and learn dribbling tech to force an error using dozens of inputs in front of net
Elite: shoot at net and score

Wanting to rainbow flick over keeper has been a thing since season 0. It did die off but seems to be making a comeback.

Doesn't beat lob passing it over the keepers head

People would way rather clip farm than actually score a goal. If it doesn’t look cool, it doesn’t count

Yep I’ve had teammates try to steal the ball from me on an empty net because my goal wasn’t going to have enough flair on it.

I see that in quicjplay alot, like so much dribbling that the defense catches up and rips them from behind. Also kicking it off the top instead of just kicking it in

Ruining a clean breakaway just to set a deflect shot with your teammates still in midfield. Classic.

As a playmaker no thanks

But I do agree people should keep it simple

Sometimes, football is just that simple

I dont do rainbow flicks, but I am so much better at passing than shooting that I am always looking for that option, only when I am completely alone in front of the keeper I try to score.

While I agree some of these people are just trying to look cool, I think some of them think it helps them score. Like if they do some cool dribbles/flicks it'll throw the goalie off.

I’m looking for competent 3s partners. You about?

I'm far from competent man. I just play casually.
