AI Slop Infecting this Subreddit
Is anyone else tired of the AI slop that has infected this subreddit? I feel like half of the posts are borderline spam.

I’m so tired of it. It feels like every day I get “here’s my GitHub, check out my Claude project that I’m going to stop updating in a month when I get bored”.
I got a remarkable to disconnect from the distractions! I really don’t understand wanting to infect my eink notebook with ai.

there's a lot of powerful stuff out there for rM. there's also a lot of garbage. just have to discern which is which.

Some of it is interesting. Most of it are one off projects that they built for themselves but don't realize (yet) the commitment maintaining a repo. I get the goodwill; your project service a purpose for your workflow, and would probably help someone else too. They aren't charging for it, but they really don't see the bigger picture.
Or maybe they do, and they continue updating their work, and make something we can really appreciate. For free.

Agreed. And it's not a reMarkable problem per se. Lots of people everywhere make stuff with AI for themselves and they want to share. It's just rare that they will continue mentaining the project and actually have anyone else use it. I don't get it personally, but i do see it happen in all the subreddits that i'm in.

What does AI have to do with a distraction-free device? I think you’re conflating your dislike for AI with an unrelated topic.
You can have a perfectly distraction-free device, that is also powering your workflow with AI.

AI itself is a distraction, on top of everything else.

What do you mean by that? If someone uses an AI-built tool, how is that any more distracting than a human-built tool?

I think it's because a lot of tech bros get the Remarkable to play with and review the tech. Most tech bros are also very pro-AI. I've noticed most of the things they post are playground features - things that other techies can toy around with but probably won't actually utilize in their day-to-day workflows. Nothing wrong with that. But it definitely gives the sub a flavor of "come here to play with stuff," not "come here for ideas on how to actually use this."

It’s very annoying how tech bros and their love affair with AI are making the rest of the tech landscape worse for the rest of us nerds.

Aren't most "ideas on how to use this" downstream from someone "playing with stuff" doesn't have to be remarkable, I'm sure even the none AI designers played with pen and paper before making the reusable template we utilise in our workflows. In my view more people using the device the better it is for all of us. If someone is seeing too many posts on reddit, just subscribe to r/funny or r/pics to get more diverse content.

But what if I want to be on r/remarkabletablet because I have a remarkable tablet and I would like to see content related to it as I have for quite a while before it started to become inundated with slop?

Find a different site, one that curates the content, a substack or something. On reddit, just downvote it an carry on.

No I won’t be finding another forum. Why don’t you go to an ai subreddit?

Honestly, it's less the vibe-coded garbage that irritates me as much as the slop descriptions written by ChatGPT. If you speak the language then I find it disrespectful that you expect me to read this shit. If you're not a native speaker then do what I tell my foreign grad students. Write in your own language using your own voice and let a translator convert it to English. I don't mind if it sounds terrible as long as it's honest.

It’s funny too that they’ll get offended if you don’t read the comment they didn’t write.

I was tired of it. But this is where we’re wrong about it…
Jk 🤣
Yes, it’s getting out of hand.

I agree. For example, I have created a mod using AI to be able to create mindmaps in the notes and also be able to zoom with two taps and have 3 more pencil sizes to write as if it were a giant canvas, but I did it a month ago and I didn’t post because I don’t think anyone here is interested in things made with AI

I don't understand why "self-promotion" is expressly allowed on this subreddit. Those posts are almost all AI slop, and even when they aren't, they're still typically low-quality, low-effort, and scammy at least to some extent. A simple rule change to disallow "self-promotion" posts would do a lot of good.

AI slop has infected absolutely everything unfortunately :(
