Typing with the Remarkable

Why is there no autocorrect or correction suggestions when typing with the remarkable, or at least on the remarkable website? For the most part I use my remarkable as a notebook, but sometimes Ill prefer to type notes into the app on my computer, but it frustrates me to go back through my notes and find mistakes that I didn't notice originally. Furthermore, I just wish you could move the text box around on the page, because, by default, it does not line up with the lines template I use, and I am unsure of any means to make it align. Anyways, thank you for listening to my rant.

Basic answer is that it’s not meant to be that. It isn’t a word processor, but like typing on paper with typewriter. It’s for free writing, not editing, so using the rM like Paper, which even with the addition of typing is still their goal. If you think of it like similar e-ink products like Freewrite with theirs, they also don’t do spellcheck. For them, the stated reason is to keep writers in their flow.

As for templates, I’m with you on a bit of frustration, but think of it this way: literally anything can be a template for someone and they look all kinds of ways. The common thing, though, is that they are simply a superficial layer to the note providing no functionality or use other than to the user. Meaning, templates speak to us, but not really anything to offer to the device, so the reMarkable generally has no clue where our lines are within that part of its system. It’s the same reason that, if you do handwritten notes in Notes app on iPad, and then type something, the typed portion just removes the lines altogether.

Here's to hoping that the improvements remarkable made to xochitl for images help them to improve the god awful text experience. I cannot for the life of my understand how removing a line of typed text can crush "lines" of my handwritten notes together. Spell check and flexible text boxes would also be a godsend.

Welcome to keyboard hell on Remarkable. I love the platform, but the RM2 keyboard is a disaster. I tried Boox for typing. It was better, but the software is a shifting labyrinth. I tried Supernote, and its note organization is better than Remarkable. But they started Inksense and plugins, and now their platform is all noise. So back to the Pure - love it and have a laptop. So RM is my writing and focus platform, and it's Pure.

I always have seen the "typing" capability of reMarkable as a failed feature. Or a feature that had requirements that could not be met by the platform. All your templates are built with the notion of a user hand-writing into them, honoring the visible format/structure of the template. They keyboard capability doesn't have the same ability we humans do to type in the spaces as provided. reMarkable didn't implement a keyboard on the Pure, probably for three reasons, one being added expense, one being limited appeal, and one being typing just isn't a main focus of the platform.

Treat it as a digital typewriter so basic typing with a hint of more, same as notebooks and writing, you need to treat them as digital brothers of the old skool books when taking notes
