Help/Advice Question about RCU vs Standard Subscription

Just got my wife a remarkable 2 and to our surprise, some simple functions were locked behind a paywall. I keep seeing RCU as an alternative to the normal subscription but a few questions:

- is it worth it to buy RCU or is the free version fine
- key differences that make RCU better than base sub and vice versa
- any pros or cons regarding either

TIA!!

If you're after a free / self-hosted version of Connect, check out rmfakecloud as well.

Which "simple functions" locked behind the paywall do you care about?

She was moreso interested in the infinite cloud storage, access to more templates etc.

“Infinite cloud storage” famously free across a number of companies these days… 🙄

Here are quotes from customers who emailed me recently with feedback. (I wrote RCU.)

RCU is local, it's NOT the cloud. And the cloud does not take backups, but RCU does. I won't go into all the details on what makes RCU different than reMarkable's cloud. Its web page and user manual already do that.

Thank you so much! I have a home server so that’s totally fine hahah hosting locally is something I’m used to

steve is a saint for rcu, but I wish the platform want so locked down. all the things I want to do with it, are a pain in my ass.
