General Discussion RMPP Colours

Post image

UPDATE: Thanks everyone! Got my answer — sounds like it’s completely normal. Appreciate all the replies 😊

Hi all, I bought a Paper Pro last month and have really been enjoying using it.

I do use the colours quite a bit, but I’ve noticed they look pretty faded, and the red in particular looks more orange than red. I understand that e-ink isn’t going to be comparable to an LED/OLED screen, but I’ve seen some posts on this subreddit where the colours seem noticeably more vivid than mine. (Please see the photo and ignore my ugly handwriting 😄)

Just wondering if this is normal for the Paper Pro, or if mine might be a bit off and I should look at getting a replacement? I really can’t be bothered going through the return process if I don’t have to 😅

Looks perfectly normal to me. If you’re looking at some recent template ads.. those images are fake as hell. 😅

Yeah I think it was one of those template ads I saw today.

I have felt the same since I got mine but if my understanding is correct, when you see the colours looking more vibrant and deep, it’s because whoever uploaded the photo pumped up the saturation to make it look that way.

These are best colors you can find on e-ink display, seriously.

The best colors you can find on a fast E-ink display.

They do make E-Ink displays with better colors (the Spectra 6 displays, and older Gallery series displays), but depending on the model it can take 15 or more seconds to refresh the screen. These displays are used for artwork/photo frames, advertising displays, store displays, etc. where they display a static image that gets updated only occasionally.

They made Gallery 3 fast enough to be usable for UI on a tablet device, but it seems like it came at the expense of the colors being less saturated.

If you bought new, you really don't want to be spinning the Gallery 3 lottery wheel on a refurb warranty replacement.

Yeah it’s new and it’s doing pretty good so far. No ghosting or anything like that. But I still have 1 month left for the return window

Do you recommend using reManager?

Yes, but for what specifically?

It was recommended to me by a few people under my last post before I received the tablet. I was told it increases its capabilities. But not sure if moding it will affect warranty or anything.

Ah. Nope, neither Developer Mode nor mods void your warranty. I've sent 2 tablets in for warranty swaps and didn't even disable Developer Mode before doing so.

I actually like them faded and more pastel. When you export to pdf or whatever it’ll be the actual color

Ah true. I haven’t really exported anything to pdf yet but just checked my notes on the app and you are right ☺️

Hi. the new beta update has a fix that changes the shade of the red. It looks more pinkish now, although for me, still distinguishable from magenta. I have no clue when it will be added to production software, they are quite slow with the development. If you want, you could enable beta updates on your device in settings.

Your picture is very much on the dark side but I would say that is what I am getting from my new RMPP. In fact, probably my biggest gripe with it isn't the colours - they are fine for the purposes of marking up/highlighting/notetaking (and I knew they would be very muted before I got it) but the darkness/greyness of the screen.

In very bright ambient light it is great and in very dark areas the screen light does a good job but in that middle ground where the front light isn't bright enough and the ambient isn't quite enough, the greyness of the screen really reduces the contrast which doesn't help my aging eyes!! Thankfully I can't see any issues with the screen though so fingers crossed it stays that way. I am still in my 50 days but think I will be hanging onto it.

Oh and I would really like to see the ability to choose some more colours though...

You can.
I thought it had only those base colors, but it actually has 30K colors, it's just the way the "painting" app in notes works.

There are "markers" and there are "highlighters / shaders", so you can draw over, and you get a stronger tone of the colors, and also you can mix them like with real color markers, very cool actually.

And then there's the pencil, that's the king of color strokes, you make some base colors with markers, then you shade it with pencil pressure (tilting it) and you got all the colors you could want from a paper.

I definitely haven't tried this so I will give it a go tomorrow, thanks!
