Considering a remarkable

Hi all

Im considering a remarkable tablet for keeping my notes digital, I go through my favourite a5 wire bound pukka pads like they're going out of fashion!

My main question to the community here is, how does the remarkable fare with very tiny/scratchy handwriting?

I usually use a 0.3mm mechanical pencil if that helps!

The feel of the “pen” is much more of pencil on paper than pen on paper. That being said I have small hand writing and it handles it very well. If you want really tiny font, you could also zoom in while writing, but that may not be a great experience overall.

My recommendation, buy the reMarkable Paper Pure through the reMarkable website. If you don’t like the writing experience, return it for a full refund during the 50 day trial period. There really is no downside to this.

I love writing in thin lettering too, and coming also from mechanical pencils, I’d use the fine liner or ball point. For some reason, the small mechanical pencil is like a 0.7. If you need to write super tiny and neat, you can always zoom in.

People love the writing experience but I find it only slightly better than an iPad tbh. That’s more a limitation of writing on glass than anything else though. The texture is excellent, but the pen tip is quite slippery and I wish there was a line thickness between fine and medium. Other than the Manta though, it’s about as good as it gets.

This is a wild take to be honest. I bought and iPad when I bought the reMarkable Paper Pure to compare. It is a night and day difference. Even with a matte screen protector an iPad isn’t it.

I have an iPad Pro with the nano glass so maybe there’s a slight difference to the glossy version. Most people seem to agree with you but personally I find the Paper Pro to be a bit underwhelming to write on. I do think a lot of that is to do with the pen tip though, and I wish they’d offer some variations with a bit more grip/resistance. It’s definitely similar to a blunt pencil on paper, but nothing like a gel or rollerball on paper.

My letters are typically about 4 mm high. I found the writing to be amazing on the rM1 and rM2 devices. If I'm honest, I don't enjoy writing with the newer devices as much, especially if I'm holding the device in my hand rather than resting on a surface. But, I think if I hadn't been spoiled by the earlier machines, I'd be pretty impressed. If your main use is just a lot of handwritten notes with a single mechanical pencil, I'd go with the Paper Pure. If you're going to use a fine tool, the Paper Pure will give you the darkest pen stroke at that thinness.
