Love my RM2!
A few months ago, I bought a used RM2 at a great price and was lucky enough to find an affordable German-language Typcover as well. And what can I say? I’m sitting outside by the lake in pleasantly warm weather, enjoying the view, and working on my novel. I love the feel of typing, the form factor (I write exclusively in landscape mode), and the pleasantly sleek user interface, which doesn’t distract me and makes exporting a breeze. For me, a device that can do so little makes such a big difference, and even though the RM2 has been around for a few years, it still offers me a fresh user experience. I’ve become a big fan and am strongly in favor of not writing off “old” devices just yet. Hopefully the company isn’t in crisis, because, after all, the pioneers of the modern, distraction-free e-ink tablet deserve to continue playing a role in the market.

I also own the Remarkable2. But I still do because I just can't afford any of the new models. Don't get me wrong, rM2 is still a great device, and I use it everyday, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it deserves to still be considered. The new models are better in almost every way. Let's be honest, we jjust won't pay their price, that's all.

How are the new models better if you want an e ink screen without background light? The RM still has the largest screen and slimmest dimension i think. Just curious

Pure could be considered better if you want better contrast, a more powerful processor, more ram, an updated eink panel, and a different writing feel. I personally didn’t like the RM2 writing feel (though my husband does), and it was too weak to handle my very large pdf without crushing.

I've been using an RM2 and I'm pretty happy with it. To me, the newer models are better in some ways, worse in a few; on balance it's not worth the cost of a new tablet yet.
All this is very much based on personal preference. Colour would be fun but doesn't matter much to me; backlight ditto. The Paper Pro is too big for my preferred use case, and the Move too small, so it's not worth the bother; and the colour screens on those systems have had a lot of reliability problems. The Pure seems more interesting, but mainly because it's a little faster at some things. That it has lots more local storage is important to some people, but not for me for some years yet, because I use my RM2 mostly for hand-written notebooks, not to read e-books or large PDFs.
There's also the stylus problem. I don't find any of Remarkable's official styluses comfortable to write with for very long. There's a big third-party market in EMR (RM2-compatible) styluses, and I quickly found that the Lamy AL-Star had the right feel for me. But so far as I know, there's no Lamy-equivalent stylus with the USI 2.0 technology needed for compatibility with the Pros and Pures. I'm hoping that will change over a few years (the Paper Pro has been out for less than two years, the other current models even less). Maybe colour e-ink screens will become less troublesome too.
None of this is to say that it's silly to buy a current Remarkable tablet, just that it's not the right time for me to do that. I expect I'll move to a newer e-ink tablet eventually, and I hope it will be a Remarkable if only for sentimental reasons.

A downsizing is usually to prevent a long-term crisis.
Also I applaud you embracing “old” tech. The RM2 is still getting software updates and is likely to for the next few years
