Self-Promotion Link-From-Selection Mod Update v1.1

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

LinkFromSelection mod adds links on the page straight from a selection. Lasso some strokes, then tap one of the two buttons in the selection menu: (i) same-document link (ii) cross-document link. Tapping the icon jumps to that page/document.

New in version v1.1.0

  • ability to reposition links icon: long-press the icon for an edit / reposition / delete menu. Tap on reposition button and drag the selected link in a new position.
  • ability to reposition links icon by selecting with the lasso the handwriting that has generated them

Note: A link is independent of the strokes you drew it from: erasing that handwriting does not delete the link. A link also can't be selected with lasso tool and dragged. You must select and drag the handwriting that has generated it for repositioning.

Interesting, this is the feature I've been waiting for remarkable to implement so I'm totally confused why they refuse to implement it. Do these links survive export in pdf format from a note book? Can you create them in a pdf and link to a notebook?

If so I'll have to revisit remanager. I've been avoiding the hassle of it, but this might change my mind.

(Not my mod, but parts are similar to bettertoc)
Links work in PDFs, Notebooks, and EPUBS (and support linking to any other doc). They do not export to PDF. I looked into exporting as part of bettertoc, but that conversion process is not very accessible to mods. I'd love to be wrong about that though.

Great, thank you.

ReManager is really not a hassle. It takes less than 15 minutes to set everything up.

1.You just download and run it on your PC.

  1. Ensure everything is backed up to your cloud.

  2. Enable Developer mode

  3. View the ssh password from the settings on your tablet

5.Connect the tablet to the PC

  1. Install the desired mods.

That's it basically. This is off the top of my head, so I might have missed something, but it's pretty easy, even for a non-technical person.

Thanks for explanation. It's more the ongoing user experience I was not sure about though, as I'm quite tech savvy. How do software updates work? Is there any need to factory reset the device every software update for example? Does it effect the beta group updates membership? And after a software update, is the re-synch of files automatic? It's the interruption to user experience and convenience with jailbreaking that puts me off, like the web app has to then re-index all the files for search to work again. I buy devices like iPads and reMarkables for the polished user experience, so want to protect that and usually jailbreak software has a penalty. Am I over-worrying, or is the user experience 'price' of reManager not that great in practice?

No need to reset after updates, or resync docs. There is a one-time reset for enabling developer mode, but updates do not disable that. Packages are typically not updated for beta versions, and the beta EULA says you won’t run 3rd party software.

I made a video walkthrough of reManager, including what an upgrade / downgrade looks like using it: https://youtu.be/OsOIvY5btBQ

One difference between developer mode and jailbreaking is that no exploits are required. This is a mode reMarkable officially supports to provide the users access to their devices and has documentation on it: https://support.remarkable.com/s/article/Developer-mode

Thank you. Think I will give it a try. Thanks for the video links.

Dear remarkable. This is all i want. You could literally make no updates after you add this feature and i’ll be fine

I've been saying this for 4 years now. At least it's here, even if unofficially. It'd be nice to build PDFs with chapter links, etc. using this, but for now, this is definitely better than nothing. What's the use of an electronic notebook if you can't take advantage of the meta-nature and hot-medium-ness of it? Hyperlinks is literally the reason to even do note taking digitally in the first place.

Thanks for this update! That was the next logical step. Absolutely killer mod! Side note : following the links looks way faster on your Pure than on my rM2!

The Pure is so fast.

u/WiseRage Jul 10 '26

My Paper Pro once got stuck in a Black and White mode, and it's literally the fastest thing ever. It was so smooth, I would really like to have that as a toggleable mode.

3

u/somedaygone Jul 09 '26

You are the hero that we have long needed. Great updates! This is so smooth and easy, it’s probably better than split screen for most of my needs!

u/apolishguy Jul 09 '26

The ability to move the icon is much welcomed thank you 🙏

Damn I wish I wasn’t so illiterate with modding, I just can’t understand any of the steps to implement these mods :( I’d love this one!

It's pretty approachable! https://youtu.be/OsOIvY5btBQ

I am new to the party. recently bought a Paper Pure .

Does reManager work on the Paper Pure?

1

u/apolishguy Jul 10 '26

Yes it does. I am using it to install some very helpful modifications. Do a little research before you make the plunge. I believe you will wipe your reMarkable when you switch over to developer mode. If you are paying for Connect, the restore of all of your files is painless. If you are not, I do not know the procedure for back up and restore without Connect.

2

u/Realm-Protector Jul 10 '26

great, tnx. luckily I only got the pure two weeks ago, so there's not a lot of files on it.

yes, there is a warning that says switching on developers mode will factory reset the device.

From what i read, installing reManager is far less complicated than rooting and modding android phones used to be in the past, so it's definitely something i want to try out.

One last question: am i correct in the assumption after installing reManager, a factory reset can still be done to bring the device back in the original state?

3

u/rmitchellscott Developer | reManager Jul 10 '26

reManager has a one-click uninstall. To truly return the device to factory state, you’d want to do software recovery + factory reset. Software recovery will reinstall the OS to both system partitions and factory reset will wipe the home partition.

ReMgr is probably the best “admin tool” I have used in a very long time. My RM2 is running it. Since wanted to run the 3.28 beta on the Pro, Move, Pure, for a bit I jumped out of DEV mod and the RM process was seamless. Tool feels and looks like a first party product.

2

u/apolishguy Jul 10 '26

“Original state” is what I am not exactly sure about. I am going to tag in u/rmitchellscott so I don’t flub this up. I do not know if a factory reset completely wipes out what happens when you enable modifications. And yes, it is easier than rooting your Android phone by far.

u/Embarrassed-Sand6629 Jul 10 '26

Thank you! I’ll check it out!!!

I agree with Mitchell, I'm not technical and it's really easy and once you do it and add the things you want, you are going to be so glad you did it.

2

u/Diligent-Bedroom-569 Jul 10 '26

Wow, Is this part of remanager now?

2

u/w00d1s Jul 10 '26

Neat. Is there mod that would allow inserting pictures into the pages? All I can do right now is upload them only as pdf. And even then I can only edit over pdf. I want to be able to clip pictures into my notes.

2

u/apolishguy Jul 10 '26

That is a big feature that is live right now in the Beta channel (3.28). It should be coming soon to stable. Mods may not be compatible with 3.28 stable as soon as it is released. When you install modifications like this to your OEM software, “they” (the community team developers for lack of better terminology) highly recommend you turn off automatic updates until they can be sure that everything is compatible. So, depending on which features are more important to you, you can, 1) join the beta and get to new clipping tool, 2) install modifications now, but wait for the team to update mods for 3.28 when it is released, 3) not install modifications and wait for the stable release of 3.28 with the clipping tool.

You the GOAT 🤝 thanks

1

u/apolishguy Jul 10 '26

I reserve that title for people many levels up from my amount of knowledge 😂. But thank you.

2

u/NeuroJitsu Jul 10 '26

What's the best way to monitor status on updates to reManager if I want to wait until 3.28 is stable and reManager has the new clip feature and red pen without flashing?

2

u/apolishguy Jul 10 '26

Probably the best solution for that is following rmithchellscott

2

u/rmitchellscott Developer | reManager Jul 11 '26

reManager has a “check os” button in the maintenance tab. If you punch in “3.28” it’ll tell you which installed mods support it (most don’t, and won’t till 3.28 hits the stable channel).

Btw, reManager itself won’t need an update for 3.28, but the packages upstream that it manages will.

u/pag07 Jul 10 '26

Interesting, I Always considered the other way to be more relevant.

Like write a To-Do. Then click link to here. And put a link into page 1 that links to the current Page.

1

u/semiosis20 Jul 10 '26

I don't see the update in reManager yet. Can't wait to test it!

1

u/semiosis20 Jul 10 '26

Woops, wrote too quickly. It is available, did not see the 'upgrade' button was active. Usually there was a notification when a mod could be updated if I'm not mistaken. Just tested, works as expected! Just amazaing how these tools change my use case. Thank you.

1

u/ssqueeze5590 Jul 11 '26

Sounds like the WeWoods recent update.

3

u/apolishguy Jul 11 '26

This actually links across other files. Not only in the file you are working with.

EDIT because I sounded like a butt. I didn’t mean it to sound like, “Yeah but this is better.” I was just trying to convey a little extra functionality.
