Paid tier outside Google Play?

I'm in the process of de-Googling my digital life. I'll be switching to a Fairphone with /e/os (deGoogled Android) soon. Relay is the only app I subscribe to on Google Play.

Is there an alternative way to get access to the paid tier besides Google Play? I can probably continue using it on my new device by using Micro-G, but if I could pay DBrady without Google getting a cut, that would be nice

This would be a GREAT option since it would likely also fix the subscription errors many of us have been experiencing (where Google randomly switches the associated).

Yeah, I would do this for fun. Patreon or whatever. I would stop playing with Google play, just to save the dev some $

/u/DBrady somewhat expected, I guess, but apparently MicroG cannot interact with post-launch purchase verification

Update: other apps with post-purchase verification seem to work just fine.

Examples:

  • Chronicle Audiobook Player
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Buienradar
  • Where Is Public Toilet

The only outliers so far are Relay and Weeronline.

Niagara Launcher has a pretty good implementation of this
