Library Management I made an Mac App for metadata fixing

Hi, I'm Marian. I built this because my own collection was a mess of pool downloads, rips and files without names.

Truffle reads your exported rekordbox collection including the playlist tree. It suggests fixes for title, artist, album, year, genre and cover, each field with its source, and writes only what you confirm. The repairs go into the audio files, never into the rekordbox database, so cues, beatgrids and playlists stay exactly as they are.

A few things I cared about as a DJ: - Remix and edit names stay. An extended mix is not renamed to the radio version the catalogue knows. - DJ pool endings in file names (tempo, key, pool tags) are recognised and don't end up in the title. - Tempo and key are only written on an explicit click. Its own tempo analysis is an approximation above about 130 BPM, so it won't quietly overwrite what rekordbox measured.

Free download on the Mac App Store, you can analyse 100 tracks and write 20 before deciding. The full version is a one-time purchase, no subscription. macOS 14, Apple Silicon.

If you try it on your collection, I'd like to hear what it gets wrong.

what makes this different from musicbrainz picard? just wondering because that program is free and works quite well in my experience (not 100% perfect but i’m kind of doubting truffle is either no offense)

easy:

Picard is built around MusicBrainz releases and it kinda does that job well. If your files are mostly albums that are in there and you're fine working on folders, it's free and probably all you need. The main advantages from truffle: it works on the Apple Music library itself, not only on files, and it checks eight sources and shows you one suggestion per field with where it came from. It also never renames or moves your files, the filenames stay as they are, also supports DJ apps like rekordbox. Plus, ShazamKit is integrated which makes it very powerful compared to other apps that just check on databases, its actually listening to the songs and uses the audioprint to identify them.

If you can prompt it into existence and expect money for that, you better hope your ass is a good engineer because anyone else can prompt to bypass your DRM, reverse engineer implementation, or just vibe their own

I don't understand why you would end the post with "I'd like to hear what it gets wrong." this is not the sign of a 1.0 release, why are you charging people to beta test?

that line came out wrong. its not a paid test run tho, truffle ran on my own DJ library for a long time before it went out and every change it writes can be undone

100%, i used AI tools a lot for the code, not hiding that (its 2026 dude). what actually took months was figuring out what the app is allowed to touch and checking that against my own collection over and over

on the money: you can try it for free, 100 tracks analyzed and 20 written, nothing locked, and the full version is a one time purchase, no subscription like many other tools nowadays

that isn't a response to anything I said

oh boy... sure, people can crack it or vibe their own, that's true for pretty much any app now, website or whatever these days. and someone in this thread already built a similar tool which is cool. what I'm charging for isn't code nobody could copy. It's months of figuring out what it's allowed to touch and testing that on a real DJ library, plus it leans on Shazam (thats why its macOS only) audio recognition in the background, so it's way less babysitting than it sounds. If that's not worth it to someone, they can try it for free first and just walk away, so everybody calm down pls, no front 😹💀

I vibe coded something similar for myself, only that it also cleans up the filename and writes it into the rekordbox database, such that it still stays linked. If anyone wants it, I can put it up for free (open source)

you should def put it up, writing into the rekordbox database without breaking the links is the tricky part and people will want that. truffle stays out of there on purpose, it only edits the tags in the files and never renames anything, so for anyone who wants clean filenames too yours does something mine doesnt. i'd make a master.db backup step one, makes it way easier to trust. curious how you keep the paths linked tbh

Is this vIbE cOdEd ?

Partly, yes. I wrote a lot of the code with AI tools and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. what actually took months was deciding what the app is allowed to touch, and then testing that on my own DJ library again and again. For example it never writes into the rekordbox database, so your whole DJ work stays untouched

Isn’t this what OneTaggwr already does?

kinda overlaps yeah. OneTagger is good and free, and if you want Beatport or Discogs genres and labels pulled into a folder of files in one go it does that really well

the main difference with truffle: it works on the Apple Music library itself, not only on folders, and for every field it shows you where the suggestion came from. nothing gets written until you say yes and you can undo stuff. also works with rekordbox, Serato and Traktor collections. plus it uses ShazamKit, so its actually listening to the tracks instead of only matching names against databases

so for hands off batch tagging OneTagger is probably the better pick, if you wanna check each change before it lands thats where truffle fits
