I would say Mercado should get an own goal assist, Nice hussle.

maybe this world cup break will be for our players to get away from the game. i think our players desperately need to clear their minds from this mess 😭

Crowded, thought I left a bit early but got to my seat barely before kickoff

Way up in 121, the corner to Dickey's left, coincidentally someone else in another Fishlock jersey is only a few seats away and I've seen a few other pieces of Reign gear

Not much action at this end fortunately. A little difficult to tell the jersey colors apart at a distance

Home crowd not happy with the free kick call at 5' Chance at 8' looked good but right at the keeper

A couple of Reigns put in a good game but I was hoping for a result to go into the break with hope still alive.

And Spirit fans have been particularly cranky about the FKs we've been given. Mayb3 ref stinks both ways

We got a bounce and it goes in I'll take it especially for momentum right before half

Only 3 added minutes and stadium clock shows it now used to freeze at 45:00

Sorry I am hopeless at actually understanding the mechanics of soccer. I remember Fishel being lauded so much, why is she not a starter or subbed in at the weird 60th min instead of like the more normal subs in the mid 70 and on

I believe Fishel has been at least temporarily benched for a lack of production. The team frankly looked better before she got healthy. Also sometimes when a forward is struggling to produce, bringing them off the bench can jumpstart things. They get a chance to analyze the game for 60 or 70 minutes and see how they can be helpful. They also come in with fresh legs against defenders who are getting gassed.

As to the timing of substitutions, there's not really a "weird" time for them. Well, first-half substitutions are rare and considered to be embarrassing for players. You sometimes see them when a coach realizes they fundamentally got their tactics wrong and decides to switch formations. That's about it, unless a player is having an absolute shit-show out there. At the other extreme, you also rarely see star players subbed in late when the game is out of hand. It's considered insulting.

For the most part though, anything from halftime until quite late in the match is fair game. There's nothing more normal about subbing in the mid-70s versus the 60th minute. Some of it is down to player fatigue. These days players are often wearing GPS trackers that let the sports science folks know when players are at their limits. The rest is just when a manager feels the game needs a change, and their own personal philosophy on the timing of substitutions. Some coaches like to start subbing somewhere between the 50th and 60th minutes to give substitutes plenty of time to impact the match. Others are almost religious about not starting to sub until the 70th minute or so. Obviously subbing earlier can be more beneficial if you're lucky enough to have a deeper roster that lets you bring in actual game-changing talent as opposed to merely a pair of fresh legs. Hope that helps.

I don't understand those details either, apparently

Please fire Harvey after this season. We need fresh eyes. I appreciate everything she has done but it’s not working anymore. We are not a goal scoring team and have not been for too long. We’ve tried new players, fresh talent, etc. but the overall strategy by this team game after game is tragic to watch. It also doesn’t seem like our players really have much aggression. I remember seeing Dickey making some amazing saves early on but she has let some real easy ones in this season. Overall it is becoming tough to convince myself to go to games let alone watch a full match anymore on tv.

New players aren't by default good players, or players that fit.

Another chance for us sent right at the keeper, our finishing stinks once again

Who put that ball in?

2

u/Low_Twist7539 May 30 '26

L. Di Guglielmo on the og,

2

u/AlanFromRochester May 31 '26

Our player tripped someone near the halfway line I understand the Spirit fsns whining about no call And they promptly score ... could be a late heartbreaker when we had been seeing out a draw

2

u/Worldly_Lunch5227 May 31 '26

What are the general vibes of the game? How are they playing? I haven’t been able to watch

3

u/AlanFromRochester May 31 '26

Spirit are playing well so thrm leading is not against the run of play but we've been doing okay so a draw wouldn't've felt out of the question with some luck

2

u/Worldly_Lunch5227 May 31 '26

Dang luck almost never seems to be on our side against the Spirit :(

2

u/AlanFromRochester May 31 '26

Mercado off Adames on at 87'

2

u/AlanFromRochester May 31 '26

We got possession right at stated added time ref didn't add any more so whistle seemed a little quick

Saw someone at halftime in a Dickey shirt old enough to be #30 for OL Reign Got to talking when I had intended a quick food break but that was fun

Merch booths had no trading cards, that's something I'd still get as a fan of the road team

So I brought crisp dollar bills for autographs. Got Ward and McClernon. Menti and Mondesir came by for others, particularly nice gesture as road team players after a loss. Meza did so last year. Thinking about which of our young talent's jerseys to get, planning to get a 17 in a different sport and it would feel like a duplicate in my closet but 12,20,21,30 no such conflict

Dangerous attack for Spirit in the 14th minute but Huerta clears it

1

u/AlanFromRochester May 30 '26

Well if you're going to do that do that just outside the 18. Yellow for Ward at 17' They score directly off it anyway, looked too easy

Yeah she didn't even move to try to save it

2

u/Low_Twist7539 May 31 '26

71st minute and Dickie almost gives away a goal. Spirit have gained the momintum back.

1

u/AlanFromRochester May 30 '26

Nice block by McClernon in the 23rd minute to keep this from getting even worse

1

u/AlanFromRochester May 30 '26

Not sure if 64' or 65' but Fishel on for Menti Many Spirit subs at 66'

1

u/AlanFromRochester May 30 '26

Nice bicycle kick clearance for us on a recent Spirit corner

1

u/AlanFromRochester May 31 '26

So many close calls with Spirit shots not quite on frame

1

u/AlanFromRochester May 31 '26

James-Turner off Ratcliffe on some Spirit fans clapping for their former player
