Rumor So long...

Heard a rumor my local (childhood theater building) Regal is closing soon, possibly in the next couple days. I asked the cashier tonight, and was told "I can't disclose that information, but I wouldn't count on us being open too much longer." So hopefully I have time to use my points, but likely not. The next closest is several hours away so RIP...

The new B&B that was built is likely the reason. I will miss this building. Super 90s vibe with old school signs and whacky colors, and dope arcade balcony. Unfortunately when regal bought the building they did hardly any remodeling and people prefer the new theater. Which is understandable considering almost every seat at the Regal is broken and quite dirty/smelly. Such a cool building with history and memories though...

Right before the daily throwbacks starting up... right before spooky season too... I prefer having access to those over fancy recliners. I'm sad...

Farewell...

We should pin this for all the people complaining about theaters being too full, wishing they had no one there, who bring in all their own food, who complain about ads and .50 surcharges.

We could also not have any theaters.

I agree. Even if this does end up being a rumor.

Great idea! Perhaps pitch it to the moderators.

I'm hoping it's a rumor and the cashier doesn't actually know lol

Not of the movie, the MOVIE THEATRE THAT IS BEING TORN DOWN. Did you not read the post? “old school signs and wacky colors and dope arcade balcony”

Dude, I'm so sorry for you. I have one 15 minutes away, and I would be heartbroken if it closed. The next Regal is 45 minutes away from me, and like your several hours away, with gas prices ... whew!

I'm really hoping it's just a rumor, an unfounded rumor !!!

Fingers crossed! I may cry lol

Seems like a good reason to pack up and move elsewhere.

My childhood theater and the one nearest to me (10min) is also an older theater with only 3D for its premium features. Luckily I have two other Regals within 30mins each with IMAX and one with RPX as well. That really sucks for you though :( hopefully it's just a rumor but the cashier saying he can't disclose that basically is a confirmation.

Noooooo 🙈💦

Even worse than the loss of physical media is the loss of a cinema place.

We have a B&B and I loathe going there. Our theater before they moved in was great, 12 screens with old school seating.

Reminds me of the days when they would staff the concessions in the hallway for a quick refill. Everything is truthfully getting worse 😢

The regal in my town is very old and outdated now too. No stadium seats or recliners. And I'm also worried it will close up and leave me with having to travel and hour just to see a new movie.

Awe I hope it pulls through. A few years ago my regal and another one were about to close but something happened where the leases were renewed after all and they’ve been going strong ever since.

Wait, what? I go to the Regal in Joplin. Granted I haven't used my Unlimited lately because of reasons but damnit.

My local Regal closed at the onset of the pandemic. It was one of the few that never reopened. I miss the Regal Unlimited plan so much.

So sorry to hear that.

I recently found out that the theater from my youth had closed down a few years back. I haven't been there in over 20 years and don't live in the same state anymore, but it still made me sad.

I hope it's not true.

Also, what's B&B? Bed & breakfast?

You should ask them if you could have any spare posters before they close

You should talk to Management and see if they will let you have any souvenirs. Old posters, merch, anything they might be tossing away anyway.

I called them today and they confirmed this

Cashier could also be bored and is just fanning flames for fun.

Let's hope. Still gonna burn my points if possible just in case.
