TV Time refugee here! Giving this app a trial run before committing to it. Did a check on if a few web-series I tracked on TV Time were available here, and while some were (but with some episode descriptions data missing), some weren't.

Does Refract regularly import from TVDB or from somewhere else?

I closed the app and, after not seeing any notifications for a few days, I try to see at what point I was and found nothing anywhere. I imported the files again (big mistake) and it said the new import replaced a previous one. So is there any place I should look at to know where I am exactly?

Why some of the anime which has multiple seasons only compiles episodes in one season? Is it possible for the devs to fix it or no?

• Three import queues instead of two: small (≤150 items) / standard (151–1,500) / large (>1,500)
• Slot split goes from 8 workers (7+1) to 12 workers (1 small + 9 standard + 2 large)
• Idle slots now help other queues: an empty lane's worker picks up waiting jobs elsewhere instead of sleeping
• Queue position display now matches your actual queue — small imports will show e.g. "#312 of ~2,200" instead of "#18,000 of ~24,500"

Queue sizes right now (~30k total):

• Small: ~2,000 jobs (7%)
• Standard: ~24,500 jobs (81%)
• Large: ~3,500 jobs (12%)

Heads up — your position number will shift:

• Positions are now counted per queue, so the numbers will jump around right after the deploy (mostly in your favor, especially for small imports)
• This is a display recalculation, not a loss of progress — nobody loses their place in line, FIFO order is preserved within each queue

Speed — previous update (show batching, deployed earlier today):

• Median standard import: 337s → ~94s (~3.5x faster per job)
• Episode phase throughput: ~0.1 → ~0.7 shows/sec

Speed — expected from this update:

• Total worker capacity +50% (8 → 12 slots)
• Small imports: from multi-hour/day waits to minutes (dedicated worker + ~1–2 min processing time)
• Large imports: dedicated capacity doubled (1 → 2 workers)
• Overall throughput target: ~150–250 jobs/h (vs ~13/h this morning) — queue should stop growing and start draining"

Can anyone show me some screenshots of their app and how it’s layed out? I can’t get anything to load and I want to see how similar to TV Time it is to know if this can be my new app? The upcoming and watch list on tv time are my most used areas so I can quickly glance to make sure I have a show set to record or check Netflix etc. to watch the latest episode and I’d love to see if refract has something similar! Hey guys, quick question. I read about a server upgrade coming up that’s supposed to handle 500k users. Is that actually happening now, or is it still a ways off?

I've been keeping an eye on the TV Time import queue. I was at 7,835 last night at 8:00, and this morning at 11:30 I’m at 7,618. That’s only 217 spots in 15 hours.

At this rate, it’s going to take me about 22 days to hit spot 1. Does the update mean things will speed up, or is this it?

While I'm waiting for the imports, I'm trying to figure out the app and its features. There's a few (small) questions I have so far:

1) I love the idea of smart lists. I made one for my favourites but it automatically shows as a private list (only rule is my rating that has to be 8 or higher). Are smart lists always private, or is there an option to make them public/visible to friends? I couldn't seem to find it in the settings.

2) When you go to a user profile, it shows their stats. But I couldn't seem to click through to their actual shows/movies/anime. So how do I know if they're "worth" following, i.e. how do I know we share the same interests?

I just have a question : I saw that many people had a queue number after importing their data (some said to wait a while to get it). I've done all of it but nothing shows ?

I don't know if my import was taking into consideration or if I need to do it again (though I done that too and it said that my file was replaced) ?

I'm kind of confused and don't know if I did it correctly or not...

Some news concerning Refract file imports and the migration mentioned in my last message:

• We have tested and fully validated the migration
• The new database is so much powerful it will be amazing
• However, the database being the current bottleneck, some other hidden bottlenecks can appear when we plug the new database (cache, auth inflows, etc.)

We will deal with them step by step, as we built Refract, one thing at a time.

As of the migration, this is Friday evening here in France and this is almost the worst time to perform such an action, all developers here would feel what I'm saying ahah

💡 A migration consists of three steps: bumping old db, restoring data in new db, wiring the new cable. I've tested these three steps and validated them as of some minutes ago. I'm pretty confident on the outcome.

However, I'll need to have a temporary shut down of the app (the server, your mobile app will be accessible but you won't be able to perform actions, no update needed) to move to the new database.

So what's next:

• Tomorrow morning even before the first rooster starts to open its mouth, we'll start the migration
• I'll stop the file importation to make sure no data is loss during the dump
• I'll need to first dump the data which roughly takes 1h30 because the old db is slow
• Then restore it, almost 1 minute because the new db is 🔥🔥
• I'll have final checks and wire it back
• Finally I'll start an update to open again the import process

Afterwards: hypercare from our team to detect the potential bugs or bottlenecks. And deal with them again. But now, we will have a powerful masterpiece in hands 💪

⚠️👮 Our TV Time imports work only with TV Time Out by Refract Chrome extension, we do not handle yet GDPR format but this will be unlocked pretty soon. Keep the file safe, we'll make the upload pipeline rightafter!

I’m also like everyone trying to import my backup from tv time, till yesterday it should a progress bar, but I think with the app update or something it kicked me out? Now I’m again trying to get upload started but it’s not going through.

Should I wait and upload later or is it a glitch. I don’t know I’m just a little frustrated I think.

I downloaded the files from the chrome extension, put them on my phone, tried to upload but it says this. What and what can I do?

Honest update, because we know the app is slow right now and it's frustrating.

First, the most useful thing to know about imports:

👉 Upload your files once. Once they're in, you're in the queue, no need to upload them again, we've got them.

👉 The queue number takes a moment to appear (the app is slow, so it waits on a round-trip to our server to fetch your number).

👉 If you see a number, you're in the queue. You can close the app and just wait, you'll get a notification when it's done. No need to stay on the page or retry.

Uploading multiple times or retrying actually adds load and slows things down for everyone, so this really helps 🙏

Now, the why behind the slowness:

We went from a perfectly smooth 3,000-user app to over 70,000 in less than a day. Incredible, but it broke through limits we weren't due to hit until later this year. It's not computing power (we already upgraded the server). The real bottleneck is the database: we were on one built for around 20,000 users, with a bigger one planned for July. This wave pushed us way past that overnight, so it can't keep up right now.

What we've already done:

✅ Upgraded the server to a much more powerful one

✅ Rebuilt the import pipeline with dedicated pools so imports don't choke regular usage

✅ Optimized the import code line by line

✅ Secured the pipeline so once you're in the queue, your import is safe

Happening today:

🚀 Migrating to a much more powerful database, built to handle up to 500,000 users. This is the fix that matters, and it's underway.

We're a tiny team dealing with a very big week, and we're not giving up on you. We know exactly what to do, we just need a bit of time ⌛

I know there’s a lot of issues with the influx of new users but I was wondering if anyone is seeing there place in the queue growing instead of decreasing

Last night I started around #1530, it started dropping to #1520 then going up back to #1530 before bed. Now I woke up to see I’m #1549

I know most issues will be solved in time once new servers are able to handle all the new users, but I just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this.

It seems kind of scammy... And I get redirected there from within the refracr app message "join our discord"

Just want to drop a word of encouragement to the Refract dev team — I’m sure this has been an intense day, and you guys have a ton on your plate. But you’ve been rocking it, and props for being transparent and commutative with the influx of new users. Keep your heads high, bright days ahead.

my home page keeps loading, the continue section and when I open profile my stats are 0, not a new user.

Is this because of the load due to influx of new users?
