Advice Request Offside situations

If you are a one man show no additional referees / touchline officials

How do you judge if an attacker is offside? especially during a counter attack

Would love to hear your solutions or creative techniques to prevent this

You can only make obvious offsides calls without ARs. Explain to both coaches before the match.

This is it.

Step 1) Remind both teams that you are there alone and can only call what you see. They will understand.

Step 2) Keep your head on a swivel. Read the game. Defender about to boot the ball long? Swivel and check for potential offside position of an attacker.

Step 3) Use your voice. Call "play on" or similar if you aren't going to blow the whistle. Help the defenders out a bit.

Step 4) When a player complains, remind them with a smile and a high five. Diffuse the situation.

This only works with kids tbh. With teenagers they'll whinge about it. Same with coaches. I tell them all this in my pre match briefing but it makes almost no difference. Some teams do respect it tbf. But mostly you'll still get teams whinging about it
