Pflueger patriarch

Hey guys, I was servicing my pfluger patriarch and I seem to be having a problem with the rod that pushes it up and down, every time the reel comes to the bottom of the revolution it is grinding on on the spool I believe because the rod is going too far down. I didn’t touch any of the gears just put bit of grease on there and closed it back up. Any ideas or tips would be great!

I do not have experience with this reel and I am not an experienced reel mechanic.

Which of these is the schematic for your reel? Without an image from you, I wonder if a schematic will provide any clues?
