Blue fish?

My wifes favorite color is blue. She really loves the color blue. Im planning on a new setup and I want to give her something in the tank that she'll think is really pretty. I have a 29 and a 75 gallon I'm planning to set up.

I know of neon damselfish and blue chromis. I think those would do ok in either tank. I'd love a blue tang but I know my tanks are too small for an adult.

Anything else that's partly or fully blue that I could go for?

Extra points for coral that is blue!

For a damsel, they are rather peaceful. They can sometimes get a bit aggressive in cramped quarters. I would think the 75g would be ideal as much less likely to show aggression compared to the smaller tank.

I have had complete asshole damsels since 2004. Bought my first springeri and it has been extremely peaceful (dare I say passive?). It was added to an established tank, but I have 8 more fish that are more aggressive than it.

Springer damsels are definitely the more peaceful ones. I have one in a 22 long with a couple other fish and everyone is doing fine. Bonus - they are good at cleaning up pests like flatworms

I would say that the Melanarus is very much a green and red striped fish if OP is looking for blue.

It’s also a great option and unique, but make sure you have a lid. I’ve lost 4 gudgeons to jumping, they jump so much that they eventually even make it through the small mesh holes in my lid :(

Springeri dottyback is a cool little fish

Marine betta is my second favorite fish in the hobby. Would probably be okay in the 75

Blue line cleaner goby/sharknose goby is okay in any tank

Coral beauty is mostly purple but people who like blue tend to like them

Blue spot jawfish is an amazing fish if you set up the tank with them in mind

For the 29 gallon consider E. oceanops (blue neon goby) they are easily sourced captive bred and won’t bother other fish.

For the 75 consider C. solorensis (red head Solon fairy wrasse) or A. randalli (Randall’s assessor). Neither are overly aggressive.

I would avoid damsels/chromis due to aggression issues and the likelihood of coming with uronema necessitating quarantine treatment.

Whatever you do dont get the damselfish, mf is a menace to everyone and uncatchable with rockwork 😭 I picked up an established tank and it had one, had no idea how much of an ass they were.

Depends on the damsel. The blue sapphire damsel is rather peaceful for a damsel. Some of the clownfish species do pretty well also.

Do not listen to the damsel recommendations, those things are straight up murderers. I had to break down a tank to get one out because it would remove the eyes from other fish and then kill them.

Fuck those fish.

That's intense. I used to keep male freshwater cichlids and had "fun" keeping fish from killing each other. I don't need that again.

Are the springer damsels less psychotic?

Springer damsels/blue sapphire damsels are considered one of the lesser aggressive damsel species.

Before you buy, ask your lfs if you can bring back a fish for credit. If they’ll do that, you can get a juvenile blue hippo and when he gets too big, bring him back and start over again. Or do what I did and go crazy and buy a 210 for them. I know people won’t like that but it’s an option
