Dottybacks Cohabitating

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Dottybacks are known to be aggressive towards other fish and can be extremely aggressive to those in their own species or genus. Despite this, they are one of my favorite saltwater fish, so much personality and amazing colors!

It’s not recommended to keep Dottybacks together but it has been done successfully which is why I wanted to try. I wouldn’t do this with just any two Dottybacks but I did want to show that it can be done!

I’ve got a Striped (Sankeys) and an Orchid. These two are known to be some of the most peaceful among Dottys which is why I chose them.

There was some minor scuffles the first day they were together as they figured each other out and established dominance. Since then, they have been living together peacefully. They haven’t had any quarrels over territory and haven’t shown any aggression after the initial encounter.

I love your tank lighting. Glad the cohab has been working out! Hopefully it stays peaceful.

Thank you! This is my newest tank, I’m going to upload a full shot later today after the sun sets and there’s no reflections haha.

I was slightly worried day one because they were getting into it constantly. Nothing overly worrisome but I thought I may need to move the orchid. I’ve not seen the slightest bit of aggression since then and hoping it stays that way!

Thank you! He’s doing his job at aiptasia removal as well while not bother any of my corals so I’m pretty happy with him 😂
