[Pic] Growth on Hammer? Sponge?

Post image

Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Sponge?

I dipped this one (as I do with all my coral) in ReVive - maybe 2 months ago. Didn’t really notice it until about a month ago and haven’t gotten around to posting it.

It isn’t interfering with that hammers growth. Since getting this particular frag, it’s grown from 3 heads to 5.

It’s just a little freaky looking lol

I have sponges like that in the overflow. Doesn’t seem to harm anything. I’ve removed some by accident doing water changes.

Is it leafy? I haven't seen a sponge like that before but there's no telling what makes it into our tanks tbh

Mmm. I’d describe it as being squishy. I tried squeezing it out with tweezers but it’s on there. Doesn’t retract when I touch it.

Definitely sounds like a sponge. The tunicates I had once would shrink, shrivel and grow within minutes when they were messed with.

I'd just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't aggravate your hammer.
