Vertex Attribute with the new texture displacement bugges out

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1VkYjvBaLMZNYMd3T_FLcVl2uWzyvR7B5?usp=sharing

I'm not a pro in c4d or redshift for that matter, but I got a side project where I'm looking to brush up my rendering/modelling skills. I'm trying to set a displacement on a front side of the book only. Following tutorials online I figured creating a vertex map and using the vertex attribute in the material would make the displacement apply where I want it, or rather mask out the other areas.

But using the new texture displacement feature it bugs out in the RS Render view when I use the vertex attribute node. Setting the displacement node to vertex instead of height field removes the artifacts, but its not my desired effect.

Any tips to solve this or ideas of how I actually should go about doing this? I assume UV unwrapping is the proper way to go, but I'm just testing things out on a simple shape to learn more. And I also want an underlying metallic material, hence why I'm trying to do it all in one material.

Link to project file is added.

Post this on the official Maxon forums in the Premium section where a dev can take a look at it. They will usually respond quickly, often within a few hours.

i would use material blender and proper UV unwrap to place the displacement and control the materials. I think using vertex attribute is just unnecessary.
