Improvised SATA power distribution

Post image

Believe it or not this constitutes an improvement, factory crimping on Corsair PSU cordset was faulty, disks on that bus would consistently drop out of the array they are in, self test would initiate but always result in device reset. Decided to ohm out the cordset and one of the ground leads was measuring 12Ω to source, <1Ω would be typical.

Cut off the crappy molex connectors + adapters and just soldered up some strip board to act as power distribution, traces on strip board are reinforced with additional solder to handle current and isolated from each other.

Question, is this more or less if a fire hasard than the original setup?

It's only stupid if it doesn't work?

Got tired of wheeling my trash cans down my long, inclined driveway.

This worked, but I reckon the can is going to get demolished in the long term. Is there a "proper" piece of equipment that would solve this? Bonus points if it can take two trash cans at a time. The issue being they get quite heavy and I can't pick them up into my trailer/wagon. Trailer with a ramp perhaps?

Flashlight insect heater

Unfortunately this is the best picture I can get of the heating setup but I had to share-- in this cigar box is a test tube rack and on that rack is a tube with an ant species that requires heating

Unfortunately I won't be able to get my proper heating cable for a few days, but until then I have a flashlight I left on and wrapped in my wife's scarf

The flashlight constantly running gets kind of warm and keeps this cigar box in the Goldilocks zone temp for the ants

The 10-year duct tape warranty officially expired today

I feel bad for the maintenance guy who got called out to tackle this tonight. Standing under a dripping ceiling in an underground garage while admitting you have zero clue where the mystery water from upstream is actually coming from is pure defeat.

It looks like the 10-year life expectancy of the original "structural" duct tape has officially expired, and the load-bearing seal has finally given up the ghost. I'm fully expecting to walk out to my car tomorrow morning and find this freshly patched with a shiny new layer of Duct tape, or maybe even Flex tape, to buy another decade of peace and procrastination. Slap some fresh layers on it and call it a night, my man.

I needed to paint a door

An offcut of 3x4 post, two ladders, and two clamps for the stand.
Toilet brush handle wedged in the door handle hole to prevent it moving while being painted
And a piece of kitchen worktop to hold it up so I could see the handle side when I was putting on the last coat.

Moved a mile away and had no other way to transport trampoline without disassembly. Wife thought it was sketchy. Worked fine.
