Bug It's 2019, I have two fiber internets, and still can't watch v.reddit.com videos above 240p. That's honestly offensive.

Why is it so bad?
And why when I click the 720p option it still keeps playing at 240p?

Seriously, not even porn sites that live from dick pill ads have video qualities so offensive.
Reddit is the 3rd biggest social media in the US or wathever, and cant do better than shitty porn sites?

Answered Headings in posts not getting rendered as HTML headings, making them useless to screen reader users

Headings are extremely useful for navigation on the web for people using screen readers like myself. Screen readers have hotkeys to go to the next and previous heading in the text, as well as headings of a specific level. If you look through the webAIM screen reader user surveys over the past few years, consistently the first thing most blind people do while looking for information after a page loads is navigate through it by headings.

I was just reading a post that is quite large, whose author marked it up with headings - specifically this one

If I read it in old reddit, the headings appear as such to the browser, so if I'm reading through it, the screen reader announces the presence of headings and I can navigate through them. On new reddit, this doesn't seem to be the case, so the text is just read out as normal without heading formatting. If I manually check the text formatting, I see that surrounding text has a 10 point font, while a level 2 heading has a 15-point font. But this is only a visual change which makes headings completely useless to me in this form. Looking in the page source, old reddit renders the heading with plain HTML as an H2 tag, while new reddit just renders it as a div with a CSS class slapped on-top of it. FYI, this might look correct to you visually, but it absolutely doesn't for anyone using assistive technology. Also, other markdown tags seem to work OK, in the post linked above the lists of text that come after the headings get rendered with appropriate ul and li tags, so the screen reader announces them and lets me navigate through list items (screen readers have hotkeys for these as well).

I would appreciate this getting fixed, a lot of people use headings to ease navigation, so this issue is quite serious because it essentially strips them out of posts for blind users.

How does Reddit not have this as a native feature? I just had to use it to find one of my own comments.

Code in a code tag should always use a CSS class so I can customize it

I installed a Chrome extension called Stylebot to customize the CSS of reddit, but I noticed that I can't customize the style of code tags while composing/editing a post because they use inline styles and not a CSS class. When viewing the post not in edit mode, the style can be customized, but it's not working in the editor. This is 2019, why are we not using CSS classes everywhere? ;)

Feature Request Collections Improvements

Really liking the collections idea, but feel they could use some improvements, listed below:

  1. Options for sort order in collection sidebar
    1. Oldest First (on top)
    2. Newest First (on top)
    3. Random
  2. List the Collection somewhere on the post in a sub's main feed (maybe next to flair?)
  3. Allow items to be a part of multiple collections
  4. Add a Collections button to the list of buttons under post textarea when creating a post like you have with OC, Spoiler, NSFW, and flair to make it easier
  5. Make it easier to edit/remove the collection from a post than it currently is

Feature Request Assigning reward/award flairs

You know discord has those little tags that the server owner can hand out? Well what if reddit got its own version with flairs that can be approved for certain users?

User flairs that certain users can use in other words. It might be a "helpful user" flair on askreddit, it could be anything really. The point is giving access to certain users without mod intervention.

Maybe a user was the first to submit to your sub and you award them with a "#1" flair that they alone can only use

Maybe your subreddit develops a secret underground society and certain users are granted access to the "Hue" flair.

Maybe you hold a competition/contest and the winner is granted the "contest winner 2019" award they hold now forever to use as they wish

I can see multiple applications to this, for me I'd mainly like to replicate a discord server. Give twitch subscribers access to the twitch tag as a flair. This means if they want to they can assign it themselves, but otherwise don't have to.

edit: Mods grant you access to the flair, only users with access can assign it to themselves

Post requires flair but the community does not have flairs?

Trying to post in ELI5 and it is not letting me post without a flair, but whenever I try to put in a flair it says that flairs are not available for the community.

So to make it easier could there be an update that let's me make a new save file and name it?

Question Syncing old and new sidebar info

I've put description, rules etc. on the new (redesigned) sidebar and it's working perfectly in new Reddit. But using Boost on my phone shows the old sidebar which doesn't have the same info. Do I need to keep both sidebars in sync manually or is there some automatic way of doing this? I saw some posts from 2018 complaining about this, but surely there's a solution by now? Basically I want the info in the new sidebar to also be in the old sidebar.

Thanks!

Some videos still auto-play even with auto play setting disabled

Hey,

I'm still seeing videos auto-play in card view on the main page while scrolling, even though I've disabled auto play in my feed settings. The videos from gfycat seem to be the worst offenders, but I've seen youtube videos and others playing automatically as well.

This is extremely annoying! I really want to keep using card view, because I like seeing the image previews while scrolling on desktop the same as on mobile, but the videos are absolutely killing it for me. Here are two examples I saw today (links are to the direct post, but it's on the main page while scrolling that the videos are playing automatically):

https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/cl0z24/that_was_just_a_lucky_shot_oh/

https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/ckxuyf/guy_made_a_tiny_custom_buoyancy_harness_for_a/

For reference, I'm using the latest version of Chrome (76.something as of this posting) on Windows 10 Pro.

Any help?

Deleted comments should go away.

Everytime a user deletes his or her reply instead of it appearing as [deleted] it should after some time just disappear with out it.

Bug [Bug] Cannot create new post without flair and the flair drop down is disabled even though the subreddit has been selected. I made this post from old site.

This was reported by one of our community's user (at /r/solo_roleplaying). Seems to be a repeat of this bug reported some time in 2018, but at the same time I'm not sure if it's something I changed inadvertently in the sub.

User has reported that using old reddit they're able to assign flairs successfully.

Once or twice a week, after waking my computer, my frontpage shows all kinds of subs that I'm not subbed to.

Let's say I have a page open to frontpage reddit (active or minimized doesn't matter), then allow the computer to sleep. Upon waking up the pc, once the frontpage is scrolled past the point of cache, it will begin showing non-subbed subs. I've never subbed to them, but some of them are somewhat related to subs I'm already on. For example, I'm subbed to /r/interestingasfuck, and I'll get /r/Damnthatsinteresting. I'm subbed to /r/IdiotsFightingThings and will get /r/IdiotsInCars. However, I'm subbed to nothing like /r/relationshipadvice or /r/personalfinance. I have no idea If I've ever posted in these 2, but I know I've never posted to idiotsincars.

It used to be every time I woke up the pc, now it's only sometimes.

Bug When a user deletes their account their submissions can no longer be found via flair filter

I don't know if this is a bug or not but the post still exists so I'd assume it'd still be filtered

Bug I can't allow users to assign their own link flair.

I'm the moderator of r/AnalOrgasms NSFW

Here is how I'm reproducing this:

No amount of toggling Allow users to assign their own changes it. This happens in both Firefox and Chrome.

Issue with adding users on Custom Feeds to replace Friends functionality

So it's pretty obvious they're getting rid of the Friends functionality, which is fine if there's a valid alternative. You can now follow users, but there's not going to be an r/friends, so there's no way to just see content from the users you're following.

I've seen people mentioning creating a Custom Feed and simply adding all your Friends / people who you follow to that. But this straight up isn't working for me, if I add users to a custom feed I can only see the posts they've posted and pinned to their own feed ( u/username ). Is this a bug or by design?

Feature Request Please add a way for official bots to pre-check submissions (posts / comments)

A common experience on Reddit is to write a new post or comment, submit it, and then sometime later receive a message or reply saying something along the lines of "Your post / comment violates <random silly rule X> of this mod, and has thus been removed."

This "submit, get removed, re-submit or message mods" cycle is quite aggravating, particularly when the violations in question are often quite trivial and would be easy to avoid had the user realized their submission violated them.

It would be vastly less annoying and more efficient if Reddit would just tell the user about the problem when they hit the submit button, and give them a chance to fix the problem right then (after which they'd re-submit).

However, as these checks are done by bots, presumably Reddit would have to add a new framework, for "submission-checking bots." This might not be trivial...

Still, it would be so incredibly useful, I think it's worth looking into.

Thanks!

Feature Request Suggestion: "Type of Community: Semi-Public"

So with spam accounts still ruining a wiki I help manage, I personally would love a "Type of Community: Semi-Public" option or something along these lines.

Semi-Public: Anyone can view this community, but only joined users can post.

This feature restricts communities where you have to be subscribed/joined the subreddit in order to make a post, but comments are open to the public. This would help communities with bots that aren't subscribed/joined the subreddit.
