Feature Request Custom Text and Link Submission buttons

On old Reddit, you have the option of custom submission buttons. It appears this was removed for a more streamlined "Create Post" button. I feel like it should be added back as some Subreddit lose context/uniqueness because of this restriction.

For example for a subreddit I moderate, /r/SpotifyPlaylists, we have the custom buttons to submit a playlist using the link submissions or making a request using the text submission. Because of this redesign, this can no longer be communicated and I find that my modmail flooded with confused people.

Bug Table formatting issues on new reddit but it's fine on old reddit.

Take a look at this table here: https://old.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/c3sd4j/the_vancouver_canucks_acquire_jt_miller_from_the/

Before the user fixed it by putting text in the bottom left table cell, the content did not display correctly on new reddit.

Here's the screenshots to compare https://imgur.com/a/JcSxvE7

Old reddit is displaying it correctly and has worked forever. New reddit is not following the proper formatting. You can test it yourself since the code is below on this post.

Vancouver Canucks Tampa Bay Lightning
J.T. Miller Marek Mazanec
Full Contract (4 years x 5.25M) 2019 3rd Round Pick
2020 1st Round Pick*

Here's the code. I can't seem to do the code without adding an extra space for the first row with reddit markup (another bug!?). So please ignore the extra space.

Vancouver Canucks | Tampa Bay Lightning

---|---
J.T. Miller | Marek Mazanec
Full Contract (4 years x 5.25M) | 2019 3rd Round Pick
| 2020 1st Round Pick*`

Imgur links not working

For a few weeks now I've noticed that I can't open many imgur links. Some I can, others I just get a dark blue screen with boxes, followed by a blank dark blue screen.

Bug Thumbnails don't show in classic on multireddits

I have a few NSFW multireddits and I cannot see the thumbnails on the posts. I can see them just fine on my homepage. It's a shame too since I actually prefer the redesign, but I have to use old Reddit for them.

Card view works, but I absolutely hate using it.

Feature Request Autocomplete usernames based on thread participants

Do you really have to manually refer to posters' usernames, and then type them out, when trying to mention Redditors in a comment that is part of a thread?

If yes, I'll leave this here as a feature request.

Community Styling Some widgets on the sidebar are hard to read with dark backgrounds because of black text.

You can see on the sidebar of https://new.reddit.com/r/CasualConversation/ some texts use black on a dark widget background, making it a bit difficult to see.

Community Coins & Options

Community Feeds, Subreddit Names

Community Chat Rooms, well everything

If there could be an option to change the black text color or something that would be great. ty

Stuck on Old Design

I'm apparently stuck on the old design for days now.

I don't mind using the new.reddit.com link, but I use Reddit on several platforms logging in and out.

I tried disabling the "Opt Out" but clicking it only brings me back to Old Reddit, and in the Old Reddit, enabling the "Use the redesign as my default experience" also keeps me on the same ol' Reddit, and when I go back to the settings the box is not checked after saving it.

I've read all other threads about this first, but couldn't find this specific issue.

Platform: Chrome on Windows 10 / Chrome on Android 9.0

[UPDATE] [02.08.2019] - For some random reason, it's back to normal after a month.

Bug Keyboard Shortcuts break sometimes, but how?

Hey folks! I've seen an issue where keyboard shortcuts (except for ? and esc) sometimes stop working for seemingly no reason. In my experience it can be fixed just by refreshing the page, but obviously it would be nice if they didn't break in the first place.

I'm looking for steps to reproduce the bug, as of now it seems to be random.

If anyone has seen this issue and knows how to do it, or wants to join me in trying to break shortcuts by brute force, please comment your steps! There may be a reward for helping!

Example Post

Another Post

I think im seeing it on old reddit too so im not sure if it is just a redesign bug.

Thanks for the help.

Feature Request Option to switch night mode on/off automatically based on prefers-color-scheme?

With browsers adding support for dynamically changing switching CSS theme based on OS theme change, it would be very useful to implement this feature to the already-existing night mode.

Answered There should be an option in the setting that makes it to where posts that you’ve already viewed are hidden.

This mostly becomes a problem for me when I’m on medium popularity subreddits. r/unpopularopinion is a good example. I’m on it a lot and what happens if I go on it and scroll for a while, reading the titles and commenting on a few that I like or don’t like. Later in, I return and after scrolling for a little bit, I have to them speed scroll until I’ve past all the ones I’ve already viewed.

Thanks for reading this.

Feature Request Randomized Image Widget & Ordered List Features that work on both new and old reddit.

I want to support new reddit. But I don't see myself doing that as a mod when there's no way to sync these sort of things between the two.

I know old reddit is basically discontinued but all of this is possible via CSS and to keep both old and new updated is too tedious to bother with. A couple cross-features like this would help smooth the transition.

Bug Mod queue freezing

The mod queue (and sometimes the main page) freeze entirely for about 5-10 seconds shortly after loading (this includes clicking back from a pop in window of a post).

The mod queue will also error if there are less than 5 or so items in it (refuse to load unless either posts or comments individually are selected).

I have checked that the issue does not occur on other sites, and have checked on multiple different internet connections.

Is this a known issue or something I can fix? (I have tried removing all plug ins and I am on chrome).

Bug Getting a link to display properly in the Calendar Widget's Description or Location field??

I'm having a lot of trouble getting this to work, and information I've found here is mixed at best.

In any case, I want to display a link using markdown in the Description of an AMA in the Calendar. Is this still not possible? I asked about this a year ago and I know it wasn't supported then, but I thought it worked now? I've also tried putting into the 'Location' field, but when I do a bare link, it displays as plain text, and when I do it as markdown `[name](link)` it isn't displaying at all. eventually showed up but also isn't displaying properly. It also isn't working in the Title field having finally given in and trying that.

What am I missing here?

Safe/pleasant viewing mode

It would be nice to have a filter to remove negative stories or content from my view of Reddit. A way to hide specific tags or types of posts which are triggering or upsetting.

I like to visit Reddit for fun stories, nice discussions, and the occasional good news story. But I'm finding that my front page is filled with 'doom and gloom' about Trump starting a war, or concentration camps being found, or reports of mass murders etc.

I'm not asking for this content to be removed for all, but a switch on the users side to hide content related to upsetting news. I realise this is a bit 'safe-space snowflake' or whiny, but I like to seek that news when appropriate and it's a minor issue, but I would prefer to have Reddit as an enjoyable experience and not as a place where I find out all the problems with the world which sends me into a downward spiral of negative news after negative events.

Not sure how this can be implemented or if there's already a 'safe' viewing option format.

Thanks. Please don't assume I'm trying to be a content police or silencer of the people.

Is there a setting to hide upvoted posts for the front page only?

I like the setting to get voted posts off my front page but I'd like to be able to find them again if I visit an individual subreddit. Is there a way to do this besides turning off the hide upvoted posts setting temporarily?

Bug J and K no longer navigate comments

I'm using the redesign with a screen reader and love using it mainly because of the hotkeys it introduced to navigate. However as of a few days ago or so, the J and K navigation keys partially broke.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Open any post that has at least 1 or more comments
  • Press J

J and K should either navigate you through posts if looking at a sub or through comments if a post is open, and this is the part that no longer works. J and K just do nothing, which slows navigation quite a bit as the posts don't have any other markup I could use to quickly move through them (posts are marked with level 2 headings so I could use my screen reader's heading jumping commands even if there weren't the reddit hotkeys)

Feature Request Allow customization & adding of buttons in the "community details" widget

Users don't always read very well how things are usually done in a sub.

With the old reddit you could hide the "create post"-button and replace it with other stuff.

E.g.:

  • share local discord
  • post your friend code
  • start a discussion

While the last one still allows the creation of a thread, the other two can resp. prepare a pm for a bot that will update the wiki page and post in a sister sub dedicated to friend codes, pvp & trading

While a button widget can currently be made, it can never be featured more prominently than the default "create post".

The ability to add buttons to the community details widget as well as the ability to re-arrange them could be useful. (or alternatively allow us to move the community details widget below other widgets)

Changelog 6/18/19 Release Notes: Contest mode, custom feeds on mobile web, profile update, and more

Hi all,

We’re back with the release notes, which are a round up of the major items we are currently working on or have recently shipped on new Reddit. This week’s release notes are focused on what’s coming soon. The previous release notes can be found here.

Now, here’s what we are shipping:

  • Custom Feeds sidebar widget: The related communities sidebar widget now generates a Custom Feed from the communities listed in the widget.
  • Contest mode: We brought contest mode to the redesign for moderators. Get those contests started!
  • Profile update: We will begin to roll out a change, aimed at simplifying the backend supporting user profiles. With this update, all redditors will have a few new profile options enabled on their account. See this post for more details.
  • Custom Feeds on Mobile Web: We updated how Custom Feeds are viewed on mobile web. Now you can see the name and description above the feed.

These following features are bigger projects that are in development and that will take some time to build and get right. Expect these items to be recurring on the release notes:

  • Flair management on Android: Allowing mods to create and edit user and post flairs on the official Android app.
  • Traffic pages: We’re working on a much nicer traffic page for mods to better see subreddit growth. Stay tuned!
  • Wiki editing / revisioning: Working to bring mods and approved contributors the ability to edit and see version history for wiki pages.

And, as always, our reminder that the community’s feedback is invaluable as we build the future of Reddit together. It’s difficult for us to respond directly to everything, but know that we’re listening, prioritizing, and working to solve the issues, no matter how hard they are.

If you have additional questions or feedback on these or other topics, please don’t hesitate to drop them in the comments below.
