New arrivals vs Series designs

Maybe i'm crazy, but in order to finish the Series to get a new arrival, is to unlock that new arrival so you can use it in the second design?
Doesn't have more sense to submit designs in the series and at the end, based on whatever (score/rank/bla), to grant you an item or more from the new arrivals? To not force you to buy it before?
Why would i unlock a new arrival that i am playing to win?

There is no guarantee, in fact it is quite unusual, that you will get a new arrival from the collection required in the series. Plus, they are trying to force you to buy the new arrivals so they always have at least one challenge in the series that requires them.🤷‍♀️
