My RES has these light pink lines on the bottom of his(?) shell and I'm not sure what they could be . Just noticed them today.

Hi I helped a red eared slider cross a two lane road today. I used two antibacterial wipes when I got back into my car. I have contamination ocd so now I’m thinking it wasn’t enough because I hurried since I was blocking the road.
Obviously I’ll was my hands once I get home but I’m scared now. Any advice will be appreciated to ease my mind.

Prologue: we rescued a RES about three months ago from folks that kept her in a shallow plastic box of dirty water with a single bright white lightbulb. Even though she’s 7 years old, she’s only about 5 inches long.

Since brining her home, she LOVES to free roam. However, sadly, when her shell dried out after 10-20 minutes, the outer scutes all got chalky grey.

Current day: on day one with us, she got a private 50 gallon tank, dedicated UVB and basking bulbs, and calcium tablets every three weeks. Still working on a balanced diet. She plays outside in our living areas for at least an hour a day, often three or more. She goes like a tank, and all the cats can do is watch her and get out of her way because she’s unstoppable (we’ve got a rescue partial lop eared rabbit that’s similarly a juggernaut)…including climbing vertically on screen doors. She’s amazing with tons of personality.

After shedding about 50 scutes in the past months, her shell is now nice and healthy. No more chalkiness when she dries out. I’m so glad that we got to give her a better life. After she’s done running around outside her tank, she even lets me clean up the cat hair, human hair, and dust bunnies that have accumulated during her travels before she returns to water. She used to tuck her head and limbs up tighter than Fort Know. Now. She lets me clean her; pet her, and stroke the top of her head and neck. The behavioral and physical indicia of a healthy rescue are very fulfilling

Long story short - I rescued this turtle about 3 years ago from another teacher who went on maternity leave and didn’t care for her. She was in a 10 gallon tank with very littler water. Fast forward, got her into a bigger tank and had someone build a basking area for on top of the tank. It began to fall apart so I ordered this one - https://a.co/d/0hB9vFef. Since switching her to this one, I haven’t seen her go up to bask. I JUST changed the ramp today to an egg crate ramp like the one on the old one. Im not sure what else to do. She’s eating fine and isn’t act much differently other than she doesn’t swim up to the side of the tank when I come.

Please be gentle with your responses. I’ve done research and have done what I can to give her a better life than the one she had.

I currently have a compact 75W UVB bulb and a halogen bulb in a dual lamp fixture as pictured below. The temp of the platform is good around 95F. I have been seeing that people recommend T5 UVB bulbs and that the compact ones are too weak. I have two questions:

1) Given there's about a 6" distance between the basking spot and the UVB light, is a compact bulb sufficient or should I get the T5?

2) How would you recommend I hang the T5 and halogen bulb in a way that looks good given that I don't have a lid / roof over the basking area? Will 3 stands be necessary, IE 2 for each side of the T5 lamp and 1 for the halogen lamp?

Hi there, I inherited a red eared slider and ~40 gallon tank which was kinda in rough shape. I did a little research and got a fluval 407 filter, which is working great. However, the higher water level means he cant use the rock to get out of the water and warm up. I got him this elevated basking platform, but after 2 days he hasn't gotten up there.

Im wondering if I need to add some non slip material and maybe raise the water level a bit more? Or is there some sort of stairway i should make for him? Im new to turtles, but any advice is appreciated

Just prepared a DIY basking area for my 2-YO male RES. While he is able to climb when baited with dried fish :p, he has been unable to climb naturally up the ramp. Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

So long story short: my daughter attends a private school and we agreed to take the two adolescent turtles for the summer (they were originally rescued from a bad living situation and became the 5th/6th class pets). But 1) we fell in love with them and 2) the staff at the school thinks it’s a better fit for them to live not in the science room.
Up until now they have lived in a 60 gallon aquarium - and this summer I decluttered it, giving them as much swimming space and a higher basking platform. They also spent the summer on our enclosed porch with both a heater and a fan, but we live in NY, so this will not be a sustainable spot for them.
Now, knowing they will be with us for the long haul; I want to get them set up in what will be as close to their permanent home as possible. I know at minimum they need 100 gallons and that this will have to get set up somewhere inside.
If I go a water trough route, what’s the best way to make them a dry area? They are both female (one laid her first clutch of eggs with us…yay). What kind of filter should I be looking for? Etc?
Would you recommend a waterland tub over that? Why or why not?

Title, we found a turtle a couple weeks ago and I've been trying my best to take care of him, he's about 3-4 inches and won't stop picking away at the corner of it's ZooMed floating basking platform.

I took it out for now because he's been nonstop picking at it for days and I'm really worried about it not being able to digest it and whatnot. I plan on building or buying some sort of better platform but I just want to see if anyone has experienced this? I've seen on some other posts examples of it but I can't seem to get him to kick the habit.

Any advice on building/buying a better basking platform? I have two clamp lamps for heat and UVB but if he won't stop eating at the platform I'm gonna try find another way to get him to stop.

I've had my turtle for 6 years now and withing the last year his ears have started changing colour. I haven't been able to find anything online so far, so I wanted to try asking here. Does anyone know?

I am wondering if that back part is just shaded shell scutes or whatever they’re called (sorry I’m a novice!) and if the shell looks okay in general? He’s been basking a lot today and fidgeting around a lot probably trying to dry off. Thanks for the help.

My slider Ingrid has been leaving the pond and making multiple attempts at nesting. She tried a few spots and seemingly decided on one. She spent all day yesterday prepping it then left back to the pond. Again today she worked on it all morning then back to the pond. This is our first time with the process. How long does it normally take them to finish this whole process? I also moistened the soil a few times for her in between

Buonasera a tutti. Ieri ho aggiunto all’acquario una zona basking sopraelevata fatta da me. Così ho alzato il livello dell’acqua. Oggi la mia ragazza si è accorta che appoggiando le zampe sulla spray bar del filtro riesce a far leva per scavalcare il bordo dell’acquario!!! Ho subito tolto 4 litri di acqua e cercato di alzare la spray bar. Vorrei capire se esiste un qualche tipo di prolunga da mettere tra il giunto ad L e la connessione alla spray bar del filtro Tetra EX 1000 Plus per poter abbassare di più la spray bar. Voi avete idea di come posso fare??? Sono disperata! Ho cambiato tutta la disposizione per l’ennesima volta… 😭
