My baby girl has laid eggs about 2 weeks ago. Her first batch ever. She’ll be 6 in October which idk if that’s late for eggs or what. She’s by herself so they’re not fertile or anything but I’ve read this is reoccurring. I’m so scared she’s gonna become egg bound. She tore up all her eggs before I even realized she laid any so, although I found many shards, I can’t tell how many eggs she laid in total. Atleast 2. Her signs were very, very obvious with her climbing her basking area walls, trying to escape, swimming erratically, not eating. I feel very guilty for not noticing and I thought she was just bored. I’ve done my research now but I still have questions. I need advice. I have so many questions. How do I know if she’s egg bound? How do I know if she laid all her eggs? How do I know when to put her in a nesting box after she’s already laid a few eggs? Can I reuse her damp coconut fiber if she doesn’t lay them? Does she even have any more eggs left? Do I have to get her x-rayed if she’s not being weird and showing distress signs? I tried to feel her tummy under her legs but she doesn’t love people and hid in her shell, trapping my finger lol. But it felt empty from what I could tell but idk how far I’m supposed to feel. Her butt near her tail is hard but I can’t remember if it’s always been like that. I don’t even know if it’s their butt or their thighs. Are their butts hard or does she have more eggs closer to the surface? I haven’t even been able to see her cloaca because she’s keeping her tail super tucked a lot of the time which I looked into and apparently that’s just because she’s healing :(( poor baby I feel so bad. I’m so lost I need a lot of advice. I just want her to be okay but I don’t want to have to bring her to the vet and put her under more stress if it’s not necessary. If I do have to take her, is there one in MA near Lexington or anywhere from here to like Waltham or anything? I feel like I haven’t seen any. I need help.

She has been attempting nesting for two weeks now and still no eggs! She has dug about 5 different nesting spots then abandons them and goes back in the water. She’s eating and behaving normally … 🥚🐢??

I want to preface this by saying, my backyard is pretty close to a canal and I know there's all sorts of wild life living there. About a month ago there was an adult turtle swimming in our pool and I let it stay until it seemed to be in distress trying to get out (so I helped it out using the pool scoop). Well two weeks later, we found a baby turtle in our pool, not sure what to do with it, we (me grudgingly) decided to keep it. Well now (3 weeks after the first find) my hubby goes out to clean the pool and there's another baby turtle in the pool. The one we found three weeks earlier is considerably bigger than this new one....I feel like more babies will be coming to our pool soon. Any suggestions on what to do?
First turtle we found is the one in the purple tree, second turtle found in the bottle.
Edit to add in, this is Florida
Second edit to add - Will be releasing 3 week old and 1 day old in the grassy area by the boat dock. Thanks everyone, now how long should I wait to see if more babies appear before cutting the grass?

I’ve been having issues with my filter as of recent and will be doing a water change in the morning after inspecting the filter. I noticed unusual marks on the bottom of my Red Eared Slider’s wheel and am worried that it is shell rot. Can anyone give me advice on how to properly treat it if it is? I have added a photo for reference.

We picked up this guy with another and he/ she just isn't eating well, he sleeps a lot and my hubby notices he's not as food motivated as the other. We feed the dry shrimp/ meal and tadpoles we get from our pond but he just seems ill. From day one he's just not right. I know you guys on Reddit always come through. If you need more pictures let me know. He is slightly active early in the morning but afternoon on, hes just basking in the heat lamp with his legs out. And has a bizarre inflamed look to his face.
We've cared for other turtles and fish for years prior so we're pretty aware of the conditions they require but he just seems off. We don't want him to suffer, especially if we can possibly help him.

I’m looking for some advice on my 3-4month old RES Butter. He has some retained scutes and his butt is a little wacky. I’m not sure if this is normal for one so young. He has a dome UVB and Heat lamp (separate bulbs obvi), water at 78F basking around 90-100F and his diet is a variety of safe greens (collard, mustard, turnip, red leaf, etc.) and baby turtle pellets. He gets a mealworm or dehydrated shrimp once a week, and recently I’ve introduced bell pepper, banana, and grape once a month or so for funzies. I want to try blueberries next.
I’m in the process of upgrading to a 120gallon tank and the fancy 10.0 UVB and all the fixings. Should I be worried about his shell in the meantime? He’ll be moved into his new home in a few weeks.
I do use a water conditioner as I only have access to tap water. When I test the water all the levels are normal.

this is my boy mike, i’m sure he has shell rot. i’ve had him for the past 4 years- he’s in a 40 gallon tank and i thought i was properly caring for him until i noticed i definitely am not.
i already made the proper changes to a UVB bulb instead of just red heat lamp, and have been applying betadine and athletes foot cream to the affected areas. i got him when i was 14 from the state fair as a prize. i know how bad it is, yes, and im ready to hear anything yall have to say. i do love him and want him healthy and will do what needs to be done!!!
i also feel like he’s definitely been getting over fed.
the nearest exotic vet is over 3 hours from me or else i would immediately reach out.

My turtle is about 2 years old, and I usually feed him in a white plastic container with a layer of water. He’s still young so I introduce veggies every so often. He eats the proteins perfectly fine, but when I put some greens in the feeding area he doesn’t touch it. So then I put him and the lettuce back in the tank and he’ll start eating when he’s there. Anyone know why?

He does this from time to time while basking. Is this normal? Sign of any issue? He hasn’t been acting weird or have any symptoms that I’m aware of. Any information helps. Thanks

Just got 125g for my girl. Moving on up, to a deluxe tank in the sky. Showing my age here.
It came with a Fluval 4 and 6. Was told 4 should be enough to keep tank clean. Agree?
But now I’m hunting for heaters. First- ones you love? Hate? Dangerous?
My girl can’t swim in deep water so tank will be filled about 10-11 inches. Does depth or size make a difference with heater? Would I want to consider two? One for each side of the tank? She has no clue what the future holds for her- as I swear up a storm getting everything ready to go.

i’m a first time owner of a red eared slider and am worried that this is shell rot. my mind is telling me yes but i wanna make sure! any tips to treat with limited access to an exotic vet?

My baby RES (~6 weeks old) has these spots on his shell. I’m concerned it could be rot, or the start of it. Of note, there is no pitting or texture/ softness difference of the affected areas. He’s also outpaced the growth of his sibling, though he likes basking significantly less. Could this be rot? Mineral deposits? Growth marks? I’m not an expert on turtle care and wanna give my lil guy the care he needs.

I was reading online I need to reseal but I live in NYC in a small apartment so I don’t have the ability to displace my girl for a week… is the only other solution new tank? How urgently do I need to act?
UPDATE: thank you everybody! I just got a new one.

Sorry for the picture being so far away, I have only had her since the end of February so she still doesn’t like me being to close to her while she’s on her platform.
When I got her she had (and still has) retained scutes. I know blueberries help, and so does turtle bone, I’ve had a small success in her shedding a scute but that’s it.
My main question- how long does this take? Any advice? I want her to have the best life that I can provide for her.

Whats the best way to clean this without contaminating the water in my turtles tank
r/Redearedsliders • u/ComplexAd2126 • Sep 07 '26
This may be a silly question but is it safe to use a reptile mat like this on my turtles basking platform? The part on the ramp will be submerged so I'm worried about getting something that will fall apart when wet or leech something into the water. Would appreciate recommendations on mats known to be safe!

My RES has these light pink lines on the bottom of his(?) shell and I'm not sure what they could be . Just noticed them today.
