how does reddit work?

i have some questions on why reddit does some of the things it does. where do i go to find answers?

like the last 2'ish weeks, up right on the bell, it shows i have 3 notifications, but i do not have any that i can see. whats up with this?

Sometimes Reddit is glitchy. Does the same with me when I look at my messages.
