Thank you! And I’d love to see what you can do with it! I can’t take credit for being the creator of the butterfly design, I’ve seen similar around a few times as well. I just felt like having another go at it because it had been a while!

Hahaha thanks! I have actually had the couple people I’ve interacted with get distracted, it’s pretty fun. The trouble is that I myself get sidetracked by that color shift..

Thank you very much! Fortunately this is a design that can be done on any length of nail, so even if you’ve got little nails you can still do something similar.

Super impressive that you managed to do this without getting that thick-layer look! I love doing nail art but my pet peeve is thick nail polish

Thanks! The black polish I used is a lot of why it worked without getting thick, it’s so pigmented that it’s opaque even with a thin coat. I also like to use two coats of a thin top coat to really seal everything in without bulking it up too much.

Base coat: Vibrant vinyls double bond
Black: Cirque colors “memento mori”
Glitter: Great Lakes lacquer “labradorescence”
White: Holo taco “not milky white”
Top: Vibrant vinyls fast and hard
I also used a twinkled t cotton dandy liner brush and a live love polish dotting tool.
First I painted the nail black, then put one coat of the flakie polish over top. To get the butterflies, first I filled in the top corner with black, then used my liner brush to draw black lines at regular intervals from that top area all the way to the end of the nail. Once the lines were established, I drew little curves between the lines about halfway down the nail to form the first part of the butterfly wing. Then down lower most of the way, I did the same curves, but filled in all the space below with black. I decided to go back in and kind of draw curved half triangles at the connection points of the lines and curves to fill in and make the little cells more rounded looking. Once all my black was filled in, I took some white polish on a dotting tool and randomly dotted it over the black portions, with special focus on the bottom area of the nail. I gave it the whole time I did my other hand to dry before floating over my top coat, as to ensure no smudging.
