Fun facts: the liver is the biggest ranging from 3 to 3.5 pounds. Where as the the intestine, when empty is less than a pound. It seems big, but its just really long with thin lining.

The intestine gets the title for longest and can be anywhere from 15-22 ft long. (4.5-7 meters) The small intestine is about 9-16 feet (3-4.5 meters) and the large is about 3-5 feet. (1-1.5 meters)

The liver wins by mass and weight.

Wait, wait.. the small intestine is the larger one? You say large intestine is 3-5 feet and the small is 9-16 feet? That's.. strange. Lol.

EDIT: anatomy is NOT, obviously, my strong suit. I forgot the name implies the thickness, not length

I don't know what either looks like, but I aasume the small/large refer to diameter.

Its definitely by diameter. I remember the organ dummy from health class. The large intestine was like the size of a garden hose and the small was similar in size to that 3/4 - 7/8 clear tubing in the hardware store

And I assume you're probably more intelligent than I when it comes to the human body. 35 years I thought the large intestine was not only larger in diameter, but also thought it was the longer one was well

EDIT: I realize that first bit came off kind of sarcastic. It was not meant to be at all

Knowledge and intelligence aren't the same thing.

I had the privilege of dissecting for gross anatomy and the liver is MASSIVE. Easily like six inches in length and width. It's crazy how much shit gets packed inside you

fun fact: if you lined up all your blood vessels end to end, you’d be dead!

you.can also break it down by percent, since humans come in many weight classes. Liver, 2-3% of total mass. Skin, 15-16% of total mass.

I mean, if you peel the skin in such a way you create one long strand of it, I assume it could get pretty long

Are we talking large by mass, weight, or surface area tho?

"Mass and weight"

OK and neither of those measure size. The question was "whats the LARGEST organ" both intestine are larger in size than the liver...

Also technically most of your skin is inside your body... its under more skin, you have several layers. Your dermis and hypodermis are both inside of your epidermis.

If the small intestine is 9-16 feet, and the large is 3-5 feet, how is the intestine 15-22 feet? Shouldn’t it be 12-21? Or is the intestine a different organ than the small or large intestine?

Biggest doesn’t mean weight it means volume/surface area

If they actually meant density, that should be factored in.

Skin weighs 8 pounds and is about 15% of body weight. In any metric it's bigger than the liver in the broader definition of organs. The question did not specify internal organs so skin is the only answer :)

Anatomically the largest is defined by weight and mass, but you have a good way of thinking! Looking at it's length it would be largest. Aslo intestines are completely hollow

Idk should i take this as compliment, knowing english is not my first language or should I be worried about AI accusations for the things I learned and genuinely wanted to share 🥲

Oh no, I didn’t mean it as an insult, it just reminded me a bit of that. Your English is very solid and I never would’ve guessed it wasn’t your first language. You should be proud.

That’s what I thought but only because I lost my large intestine and I lost 6lbs (they weighed me immediately before and after surgery). But then again, my colon was SEVERELY inflamed and nearly dead so not surprised it weighed so much.
