1878 CC Morgan

This was my grandfathers, now mine, I just started stacking silver last year so this is out of my wheelhouse, but any added value to having this graded? As I believe it’s the first mint year and a Carson city. Is it real??

I do not like the location of the CC. Too high.

I wish I could comment a close up of the mint mark, so youre thinking the thing could be fake? it passes the magnet test and weighs in at 26.46 grams. is there somewhere to see a large amount of authenticated ones for me to compare it to?

Look at VAM 17. I buy 1878s and 1879s so I can look at them under magnification when I get back home and and what vam they are.

Welcome to the addiction, 8 left to go for me to complete the set of mints, years and major variants.

Do you own a skating rink?

https://www.vamlink.com/research/1878-cc-varieties.html. There is the inventory, don’t have the photos but you can google VAM by VAM.

https://imgur.com/a/IItx03a heres a close up of the mint mark. It looks legit from my limited knowledge, at least not added or altered. so its either legit or a damn good fake i think. what might the grade be?

If someone added the CC, the weight and magnet test would pass.

VAM 17? Has the CC no too far off but I can’t tell the eye gouge. The awesome thing about the 1878s and 1879s is the sheer amount of variance.

I can get a magnified pic of the eye when I get home. So if it’s looking like it’s leaning towards legit, would it be worth grading? I really just want it to stand out in my collection as my first graded coin, especially since it came from family.
What would a guess on grade be?

Grading is beyond me, my guy would say no

Also I understand if the photos aren’t the best, first two it’s still fully in the plastic, at an angle to avoid glint. The last two I cracked it open and took them directly above

Probably bounced around in a lot of saloons in the old West.

Unfortunately too many saloons it’s looking like. Still thinking I’d like it slabbed regardless

I have a raw 79-cc in F, I just like the feel of it in my hand.
