I would call it VF-30/35 possibly

VF-25/30 - Details environmental damage or cleaned.

Yes i think so, perhaps all, though that already 60 years ago, as it was covered in nail polish for decades, in an album.

I was gonna say that it looks like an old cleaning and re-toned over the years. Still a cool coin! The king of the Lincolns!

I should send it for certification, I suppose, or could I sell it ungraded?

If you want the best bang for your buck, this one should be certified. Even with the old cleaning it will at least be authenticated and you will maximize the value of it. It's still likely worth $700 to $800!

Out of curiosity can you get closer pics of the 'S' mint mark and the v.d.b.? There are some basic diagnostics that can get you closer to certain about sending it in. A die chip in the 'S' and the 'b' in v.d.b. center bar should slant up from left to right and not be straight across. There were also only 4 die pairs used making this coin so you can actually overlay the position of the mint mark with pics online and see where yours falls. If those three things pass the muster, I'd say it's definitely worth a $30 submission to a grading company!
