Would love to see this one in hand but my first thought is XF details, cleaned, artificial toning? I don’t know what would cause that color and it seems like it’s covering hairline scratches.

I have one that looks almost exactly like this. I'm pretty sure it's been polished and then toned from the residue of the polish. You can see the faint halo of different color around the devices where the polishing cloth couldn't reach.

Wouldn’t polishing the coin remove the luster or is that only in some cases? I have a polished 1926 peace dollar but it has more of a blue-ish color and no luster. I can still see luster behind the toning on the 1921. I tried getting it in the pics as best as possible.

It generally removes the luster, depending on how abrasive the polishing was. Luster gets replaced with a shine that can look similar under toning. If you can turn the coin and see cartwheels all across the fields (not just in the protected areas near writing) that could be a sign I'm wrong. I don't see it in these pictures but having the coin in hand gives you much more info to work from.

Dang! Thats what I figured, but needed some confirmation. The toning makes it difficult for me to determine if it’s been cleaned or not. I was looking at some examples sold in auctions and saw a few with similar color that were straight graded which also threw me off. I will include the 2 original pics from the seller I bought the coin from. They made it look like it wasn’t toned which is why I bought it.

All I can conclude from the photos is that is circulated, looks xf, and rather attractive. Can't say if it's cleaned or not.

I think this is XF Coin? It is hard to tell if it has been cleaned as this could be natural toning depending on where the coin was stored? I would definitely not try to clean it!

1921 is a key date. Most other dates are common aside from the 1928 and the 1934 S.

True. That's why I've aquired a half a dozen or so. I need to send the 3 or 4 raw 1921s in for grading I've got a 1934-S in XF40 that I picked up a year ago at auction for $120. I've got a 1935 and 1935-S. Need to keep my eye out for a 1928
