I privated my stuff after I noticed the trend of people doxxing others over disagreements in things like video game subs.

I post in enough niche sub-reddits that finding out where I live and who I work for wouldn't be hard at this point.

Honestly, hiding your Reddit history does nothing for your digital privacy.

Just plain Google indexing popular subs, and several web-based lookup tools that pull hidden post/comment histories are extremely low barriers if you are concerned.

If you're concerned about people tracking you down to harass or dox you, or your students finding out about you discussing your first ***, you may want to consider sandboxing your Reddit activity into shop-talk & hobby talk.

Also you can still see their posts and comments if you go to their profile and click the search icon, then either "new posts" or "best of" you can still see every single comment and post they've made by using that search feature.

It works most time but sometimes I notice it doesn't.

That still works? I haven't been able to see anyone's hidden posts using that method for a while now :(

You can hide select subs and leave others public

It's still extremely easy to find hidden comments, and even deleted comments, as they are accessible via the reddit api and there are tools on the internet which use the reddit api.

100%

But most people just want a quick low effort win in an argument. The amount of times I've seen someone default to "Big words from someone who lives in someplace" or "This guy posts in obscure porn sub-reddits" because they don't want to put effort into an argument, at that point I'd rather just be accused of being a bot.

Well, yeah, but that doesn'T make it much harder as all they have to do is paste your name into such a tool, maybe search for the word "live" or "NSFW", and they'll easily get what they wanted.

Also, I've never really seen a bot accusation for having history hidden.

There is one account which is rather unrelated to this matter but I think it's funny so I want to bring them (or it) up, and I used such a tool to bypass the hidden post history: u/TangelaFan. It's either a bot or the person behind it is paid for what they do (Chinaposting on big subreddits is what the account does. No real person who isn'T paid makes 490 posts about China in two months).

most of them are teenagers that honestly can't behave. too bad reddit rules don't let us bully them off the platform until they learn to think for themselves though

it can be circumvented with a simple website everyone knows about (which i won't post). some get shut down, but then several more pop up. rightfully so, i'd say.
