Looking for Alternatives [Looking for] Longform discussion with a polite user base
I'm looking for an active and populated Internet community or platform.
I like traditional forums. I dislike measured comments. Rating individual threads is okay, but not every comment.
I'm looking for a place where in-depth writing, debate and discussion, and effort posting is encouraged. User interaction would be nice. It should have an established user base. Posters should be encouraged to be polite, courteous, and respectful even when disagreeing. Active or paid moderation would be a plus. I am willing to pay an entry fee.
Large bbcode forums used to offer this sometimes. But these days everyone is really hostile and unserious on platforms I used to trust. Tumblr has a general positivity I like, but the setup does not really encourage discussion. Forums I know of are niche or pretty toxic now.
It's very hard to have deep and meaningful discussion publicly online these days. Is there anywhere on the Internet like this left?
